“Costs about 2 thousand a week to keep young offenders in so instead we give them a thousand a week and tell them to do something good with that”
They get a £1500 grant too, should cover the trip back to Calais nicely.
> The BBC has spoken to those men sent home, and learnt that some prisoners were offered £1,500 to leave – and some plan to come back.
A) This seems utterly farcical.
B) Much as this sub likes to poke fun at “racist boomers / Brexit / taking back borders”… it’s hard to see how anyone could be comfortable with this shitshow continuing.
What an absolutely spineless country we’ve turned into. We’re like a battered wife, giving the husband a tenner so he might stay in the pub a little longer. Least then he’s not punching our face in at that moment. Well, take it from experience. The only thing that stops an abusive partner is when they know they’re going to get a bloody nose.
An open doors immigration policy suits the wealth hoarding established elite far mor than it does the working class of this country.
The fact that the Tories have done nothing about it is not incompetence, it’s deliberate.
I was reading Jean Genet not so long ago and in that the Belgian police march him to the border, give him a loaf of bread and tell him to fuck off.
Absolutely anything it seems to avoid funding our asylum infrastructure properly. Whichever minister signed this off should never see public office again.
This could have come straight from the thick of it
This country is a joke. Wish the government gave me £1500 for committing crimes.

Voluntary returns. Isn’t new and does serve a practical purpose. There is a reason migration lawyers advise against taking the money and leaving.
1. Cost, voluntary return is £1,000 vs £15,000 forced (home office figures from 2013). If you add in the cost of prison, they usually get an early release, like many prisoners but this is on condition they get deported). Add in accommodation and delays it’s probably close to 60 or 70k per person.
2. They are then exempt from citizenship. Any that return will never get citizenship, by their own hand. Forced can be contested in court you can’t take yourself to court.
3. Those that return are fast tracked on forced flights, no appeals, no asylum claim, no council. Get caught out they go.
4. It invalidates asylum claims.
5. it is only offered where there is a high chance that they will get to stay permanently.
6. Allows direct prison to flight, no release between. We all know the department is screwed and been stripped bare, so processing misses the release date from prison and off they go into the populace.
Personally I don’t think it should apply to prisoners but then they would release them so… They lose them becasue this government doesn’t think civil servants and the services they do have any value…
How about, no money, you’re an economic migrant and your country is not at war, off you go.

**What makes migrants leave Albania?**
*On 7 December 2022, Qirjako Qirko – the Albanian ambassador to the UK – told MPs that some Albanian migrants come to the UK to seek out business opportunities. He also claimed that some “pretended” to be victims of modern slavery.*
*Speaking before the same committee, Balkans expert Andi Hoxhaj estimated that around 40% of people leave Albania for “economic opportunities”.*
*Three decades after the collapse of Enver Hoxha’s dictatorship and the opening of Albania’s borders, about 60% of the country’s adult population wanted to leave, according to a Gallup poll published in December 2018.*
*They cited corruption, low salaries, poor working conditions and a low quality of life as their main reasons.*

This country must be the soft touch target for all the criminals
>For many of those we spoke to, it was economic opportunities that drew them to the UK.
I see we’re finally admitting they’re not ‘fleeing war’ anymore, but are just, at best, economic migrants who don’t to apply for a work visa
Kinda seems like they’re being rewarded for breaking the law?
