‘Sitzpinklers’: Where in Europe do men sit down, or stand up, to pee?

  1. New data from YouGov has shed light on where in Europe men are most likely to sit down to pee.

The British polling agency surveyed 13 countries to find out men’s peeing preferences, revealing a stark divide between the sit and sit-nots around the world.

YouGov says it was prompted to correct a “glaring omission” in its data, after a journalist called it out for not having any data on how many British men sat down to urinate.

That’s despite a number of claims surrounding the benefits of the practice for mental and physical well-being, besides more amicable relations with women in the house.

YouGov’s data found that German men are the most likely to sit down to pee, with 62% saying they do so “every time” or “most times”. Sweds are the second most likely European men to do so.

In Germany, these men are known as “sitzpinklers” meaning somebody who sits while urinating.

There are debates inside the country about whether men should sit or stand. Some toilets have signs forbidding standing up, though the term sitzpinkler implies it is not masculine behaviour.

  2. I mean it really depends on the toilet. I do usually sit down at home or when visiting a friend, but why would I do that in a public place?

  3. this must be purely for what you choose at home. no one sits down on public toilets, not even to shit, there you just hover over the bowl

  4. In almost 40 years of living I never considered/had the idea of sitting down to pee. I never imagined until I saw this map a week ago that this is a thing, it seems like very strange thing to do for me.

  5. Sometimes I pee like a sprinkler and I don’t want to spray my pee around the bathroom so I just sit down, I am also able to play chess without worrying about dropping my phone into the toilet.

  6. Its about how clean the toilets are. If you dont trust your toilets at home, you have to look into the mirror

  7. How was this data recovered?
By asking? Then the question might as well be “who lies the most about this subject”.

  8. Benefice of sitting down:
You can manage the morning boner instead of waiting for it to go down significantly before peeing.
You don’t have to worry about aim, sometimes everything seems right but the first few drops decide to do a crasy pattern all AROUND the center…

  9. I only pee standing in 2 cases:

    a) there are urinals

    b) no toilet nearby and I need to pee against a tree or bush.

In any other case I sit down do pee. I’ll put toilet paper or sanitizer on the seat if I’m not at home.

  10. Well, to be fair in Germany you can actually use public toilets. In something like Italy, you definitely cannot!!!
