  1. “Passing sentence, Judge Mary Ellen Ring noted the harrowing evidence heard during the trial and the immense damage caused to each of the victims. She told them they had nothing to be ashamed of and had done nothing wrong.

“The only person in this court room who should be ashamed is Richard O’Brien.”

She told the women they should not worry about what others have to say and reminded them that the 12 men and women on the jury had believed their evidence.

Judge Ring told the older women that despite what had happened to them as children, and without parental role models, they had become wonderful mothers and grandmothers and this was a terrific achievement.

“Stop giving time and headspace to Richard O Brien,” she told them.

She told them they had achieved so much against the odds, the time is now to let those achievements in and their brother out. She wished them well into the future.”

I’m actually quite emotional reading those closing remarks from the judge. I really hope all the women involved have strong support systems in place. Fair play to them for waiving their anonymity. I can’t imagine the amount of strength they have to through such an ordeal.

  2. Can we give Ms Ring charge over sex offences from now on and force Martin “Beast” Nolan into retirement.
Nice to see one of our judiciary at least applying the law.

  3. Not speaking about the rapist he doesn’t deserve any words.

I hope his daughters, sisters and niece breath a lil easier each day and find comfort knowing they have got some justice for the terrible pain they endured. May they stay strong and take care of themselves and their loved ones. My thoughts are with them 💕

  4. Rape in general is disgusting but a man that can do that to his own family members deserves to be locked away for ever. I don’t have any positive or respectful words for this at all what an absolute waste of oxygen, I wish they could send him to a Prison in Russia or America, he wouldn’t last 2 days.

  5. Can’t read it due to being absolutely triggered but believe me I rejoice when I hear of any rapist being convicted. So much goes unreported it’s heart breaking.

  6. I feel like the time given to him to spend in jail is too short. A Life Sentence should be A LIFE SENTENCE in Ireland for that kind of horrible monster!
