sorry posted The Times article but only just realised that it didn’t have the bit I found funny in it, what Johnson actually said. Specifically that he called him a cunt, and said “we need an orgy of frog bashing”.
Well if Macron wasn’t sure that it was Boris Johnson feeding the anti-french stuff to the British press, he fucking does now
Boris is a joke and whatever he says is worthless, even if it turns out to be true
Which is amusing when coming from someone who was and likely still is Kremlin-funded… and who put a son of a KGB officer in the House of Lords.
Tell me. Who was it that put the son of a KGB officer in the House of Lords again?
Macron is scum and has a suspicious love for Putin, but Johnson is a toss pot too so…
The fucking irony and lack of self awareness of this guy hilarous
Correct. Petit Micron and Merkel are Putin’s best mates.
Well, he’s not wrong is he.
I thought Le Penn was the Putin stooge in France.
There’s Russian money and propaganda support all over Johnson personally and the Brexit movement in general.
Johnson has been a servant of foreign oligarchs all his career, in fact you could say he was born into that servitude,
He probably hates Putin because of his nationalism. Billionaires are his friends not dictators.
“We need an orgy of frog bashing” not surprising but It partly explain the vivid anti-french sentiment the anglo sphere media portrayed in the past month from Politico to The Telegraph
i dislike them both, but at least BJ has some brains in his skull, unlike the french halfwit
No it’s because Macron is one of those French Politicans who think France is still a Great World Power from it’s time of being an Empire and thus France is the Great Power of Europe and is in charge of Europe.
Well, he’s not wrong is he.
If you think that’s bad you should hear what literally anyone who’s ever met him says about Johnson
Fucking based.
UK is a better ally to Ukraine than France but France isn’t a Putin puppet lol, that sounds like something from a politico opinion piece written by a nut job lol.
Also the ministers in the Conservative government have funding links to Russia, so I think Boris Johnson is hypocritical here.
Macron at times acts and speaks inappropriately (I don’t approve of him giving Xi the propaganda coups like the last time at all), but he is no Putin’s or Xi’s puppet. Basically he just wants to buy time for Europe.
The EU is a decentralized power. That is not necessarily a bad thing. European powers have ultimately triumphed over more centralized powers time after time since the days of the Ancient Greeces vs Persia (later, Alexander, too, found out that his generals considered him human and did not want to prostrate before him the way Darius’s generals did before the Persian ruler)
During great conflicts though, decentralized powers tend to need more time to gather and streamline resources as well as to coordinate efforts between governments. Many new structures are either at a stage of stalemate (nuclear vs renewables in energy) or early formation (many recent military initiatives, including the merger of German and Dutch armies etc etc) Recently (although not much discussed on Reddit), European governments have shown notable efforts in the race towards the next big thing in the military world (quantum, spaceplanes etc), which will need 10-15 years to mature. The effort to bring advanced chips (which car companies and other “normal” industries do not need in great quantities) to Europe is also to serve these projects.
If things escalate too soon, it will play in the favor of big countries where power and resources are more centralized/streamlined, lịke the US and China.
The UK’s leaders sometimes see things from an Anglo world’s point-of-view, rather than an European point-of-view, even before Brexit.
The US is not an enemy, but also no angel. See the whole “Germans have sold themselves to Russia for cheap gas” charade. Germany depended on Russian gas, the US and France on Russian uranium (and they still do). Sure everyone has been trying to reduce and ultimately cut off the dependence. But the US wants to do it at their own pace while forcing others to drastically change while receiving the main share of blame. In this particular case, France shares the US’s problem so they also so get off lightly. But don’t be surprised if one day, when it comes to another matter, if the US and Germany are in the same camp vs France in another camp, the US will try to ally with Germany to put pressure and blame on France.
That was what Macron meant with “Europeans should be allowed to do their own things and balance their international relationships at their own pace”.
