Does anyone have any idea what this is, I have never seen this in my life. Looks like it has antlers.

  1. You know summer is truly here when the “what is this insect?!” posts appear and it’s a cockchafer. They’re loud and clumsy OP but they’re totally harmless. I’m waiting for a wood wasp post now.

  2. Cockchafer, also known as a doodlebug.

Lovely little creatures with beautiful feathery antennae

Got some decent closeup pics of a female one last year that bonked into my head and then had a wee rest on me.

Big lazy gentle bugs, they make a fierce noise but are COMPLETELY harmless so please don’t be startled if they come at you, they’re just clumsy!

Males have seven feathers on their antennae, females have six.

They’re lovely, chill little beasties, sometimes they like to alight on people and have a little rest before flying off.
