Italy’s disasters suggest the climate crisis is at the gates of Europe

  1. Oh yeah, only suggesting?! The extreme drought and high temperatures since the beginning of 2023 we have been suffering in Spain doesn’t tell anything to anybody? Hint, hint…

  2. It has been for quite some time now. Look at all the droughts and freak rain events in the past few years. Look at the Alpine glaciers, most will be gone in a few years and with them a vital storage of water for the adjacent regions.

  3. who gives a fuck about the planet. all we want is economic growth, more cars, more houses, more everything, except things that are green.

  4. Color me whichever color is the opposite of “surprised”.

I wonder if In the news coverage and public discussion of this disaster climate change also plays a role?

If any Italian or someone who speaks Italian could give some insight that would be cool ✌️

  5. At the gates? The Mediterranean sea waters reached over 30ºC (86ºF) temperatures last summer, and thousands of people already died from brutal heatwaves across Europe. And tell me that again after tens of thousands do this next summer.

“At the gates” is pretty much an understatement.

  6. So suddenly. I wish we could’ve seen it…

Start voting green! If a politician fails to address climate issues and nature protection is not on their agenda then consider them as actual responsibles for these (and coming) deaths!

  7. People are probably panicking too much about this. Think of it this way, if weather gets too insane, hundreds of millions or billions will die from weather, war and famine and then the population will drop so much that after half a century the weather returns back to normal and those still alive will repeat the cycle all over again.

  8. Yes I always know that climate crisis happens in Europe as Spain has severe drought problem and sometimes, flooding in winter. But I don’t know why the government wants to have larger size of population and promote birth rate in order to let us become more overpopulated? That’s a bad thing.

  9. Floods are normal, don’t believe propaganda made by those who want power. Change in climate is normal too, research a little bit, don’t just believe those who are in power

  10. Meanwhile literally yesterday evening, right after this disaster, in TV in Italy, I tuned to a channel and there was a guy saying things like “bUt ScIeNtIsTs Do NoT aGrEe oN cLImAtE ChaNge […] tHeRe ARe tWo PoINts oF vieW oN tHe SItuatIOn” and stuffs like that

Some days I can’t help but think we are fucked, that I should just learn to farm and hunt and move to a remote location hoping to at least save myself if I want to survive to old age and just watch them from afar as they kill each other’s futures in the hopes of squeezing some more money to aggrandize their egos a little more

  11. I love that people calling this are never listened to.
    I really. Fucking. Love it.

    Sigh.. if only

I hope the downvotes are from people not getting the sarcasm

    Mandatory /s

  12. Look at what are the people from WEF talk about how you should live and you will understand a little bit more. Don’t live in ignorance

  13. Wasn’t it already at the gates when parts of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium flooded a year ago?

  14. At the gates??? Are we going to ignore the droughts for the past few years? The deforestation in Spain? The unbearably hot summers?

  15. I have my doubts that this is true. Correlation does not imply causation.

Not that the climate crisis isn’t real or that we shouldn’t deal with it somehow …but still.

  16. Yeah shit is really starting to go down now. I guess we’re a decade or two away from people really accepting it’s happening.

  17. it was “at the gates” when the first “hottest day in a hundred years” happened. Now that we’re looking at “hottest day in history since the previous record last year” it’s in full swing.

I’m young, but I remember how an overstated joke-stereotype about Poland was “white bears on the streets”. Last winter central Poland saw just a week or two of snow.

  18. Strange that this is still a suprise to anybody.
We all saw what happened i Germany, every local and national government should be in full gear, preparing for this.

  19. Dont worry. We still got some forest left for wood pellets. Renewable energy will stop the crisis.
