And now for some good news about green energy. Finland has rapidly gained energy independence in the last 2 years – the import of electricity has decreased (relative to consumption) from almost 30% to 6%, nearly a fivefold reduction. All thanks to wind energy

That’s the source BTW [https://www.energy-charts.info/charts/energy/chart.htm?l=en&c=FI&chartColumnSorting=default&year=-1&legendItems=11111111111110&interval=quarter&source=public&quarter=-1&stacking=stacked_percent](https://www.energy-charts.info/charts/energy/chart.htm?l=en&c=FI&chartColumnSorting=default&year=-1&legendItems=11111111111110&interval=quarter&source=public&quarter=-1&stacking=stacked_percent)
I would’t say it’s all thanks to wind energy, when literally the largest nuclear reactor in the world and was started in Finland this spring and it is clearly visible from the graph.
Nuclear generation: *nearly doubles in size on graph*
All wind bros!!!
It is weird how perussuomalaiset say they are for Finns and Finland but they still want to buy our energy from dictatorships. If you are nationalistic, you should be for green energy
Nuclear power almost doubles….
*Thank you wind* ….
Please understand this: nuclear power is clean and stable. Wind power is not stable, at one moment you overproduce because there is too much wind, at another moment you don’t produce at all because there’s lack of wind. Nuclear is the best, all other clean solutions are just complimentary.
You’re not energy independent only because your *net* imports are negative.
That only means you export more than you import annually, but you would still have constant blackouts if you didn’t import.
And yet the graph clearly shows it’s thanks to nuclear energy.
I, for one, welcome our new wind reactor.
Wind and solar suck. It’s a waste of money and nuclear is the only good option right now. Where do you think power comes from when there is no wind? From the non green sources.
I love this trend, good job Finland.
Nuclear base with a heavy boost of renewable energy sources.
Love from Sweden
It should be noted that looking only electricity production omits other energy production of which heat is very important.
Think you mean nuclear power.
Thanks to swedish and norwegian hydro, wind power actually works well in the nordics. Hence no gas backup needed.
Downside: you have to sell much when prices are low and few when prices are high.
I know it might be far fetched, but I see the future in fusion energy. I belive it has potential to be one of if not the best source of energy due to it being clean and capacity for prodcing massive amounts of energy.
New Finnish Nuclear Power plant just opened this year. Hence the planned drop in import, while I say the wind factor plays a part. I wouldn’t trust its reliability too much. As you can see, the variation in wind plant production is too high.
I can also cherry pick stats in favor of nuclear.
If you check this quarter, Nuclear is producing 45% while wind energy drop. This is because new nuclear plant just started its commercial production.
As per wikipedia, “The plant started regular electricity production on 16 April 2023 after test production and commercial operation on 1 May 2023” which is this quarter.
Yle even reports that the plant has to throttle its own production in this article: [https://yle.fi/a/74-20032375](https://yle.fi/a/74-20032375)
Not a knock on wind energy, but nuclear is a much more stable and controllable source of energy. Some of the energy will have to be exported out to sweden or germany in order for the plant to be a viable business if that is even a viable option.
Not to mention this year the energy prices increased up to 10 fold. All thanks to Putin?
More like thanks for Nuclear and hydro power!
I mean just lookkng at that graph to me its pretty clear that nuclear just ate that import bar down to 6% how hard is reading data for you?
And thanks to the energy stock market, the companies can still raise prices artificially whenever they like.
How nice to have a stock market for something as unimportant as electricity – we all know how well, equally and non-criminal like the normal stock market works, right…

Clearly shows nuclear is the largest increase as it should be. This comment needs to be rewritten.
All thanks to nuclear energy*
Nuclear went from 20% or so to nearly 50% of production and the post is “thanks to muh wind enegy” going from 1% to 10%. Woo woo the wind
Ah yes, wind, the most important element
We can clearly see that it is not wind but nuclear power
Which is “greener” than wind
Wow, that’s great news for Finland and the global green energy movement! It’s amazing to see such a significant reduction in energy imports in just two years, and it’s a testament to the power of wind energy as a sustainable solution. I hope other countries follow Finland’s lead in investing in renewable energy sources to achieve greater energy independence and combat climate change.
I think it’s pretty clear from the graph that it’s all thanks to Nuclear, not wind…
Wind really isn’t clean energy when you think of the damage it does to the wildlife and the amount of land wasted by all of these you could put a nuclear plant and get more.
But everything aside good to see that nuclear is doing well here!
Why the last bar starts below zero?
