I’m a dual citizen and expecting a baby who will unfortunately be born out of Germany and then we’re moving about a year later (so we have support during the newborn phase). I know I need to register the birth by the first birthday, but the consulate near me is saying that it can take [2-3 *years*](https://www.germany.info/us-en/service/04-FamilyMatters/birth-registration/922548) for the birth certificate to be issued. So for part one:
1) Is that your experience, if you’ve either given birth in Germany lately or if you’ve had to register a birth from abroad lately?
2) Should I give the address to mail it to where we’re sending our US mail (one of our moms’ houses) or will registering our permanent address in Germany somehow inform the Register’s Office I in Berlin that we have a new address? (Which seems unlikely, but I don’t know)
For part two: which documents need an apostille, in general? I’m planning on my US birth certificate, my spouse’s US birth certificate, our marriage license, and maybe our diplomas (??). But the baby won’t need their US birth certificate done, since they’ll be registered and get a German birth certificate, correct?
Thanks all!
