People are very quick to jump on this considering we still don’t know the nature of the charges. I couldn’t give a shite about those criminals, but things would be very different if they’d wiped out an innocent family rather than hitting a truck. Safety protocols exist for a reason, if he breached them then he deserves reprimand.
The guard endangered the public by ignoring Chase protocols so I’d say that’s why he was charged. It’s a pity they wouldn’t go after the far right scum with as much vigour

What a great precedent to set. If the guards are chasing you, just do something incredibly dangerous to the general public and they will have to let you go and stop chasing you. Being a scumbag criminal just got even easier in lawless ireland.
The scum that burned were grown ass adults, not 12 year olds. They made a decision to break the law, drive like that, and ultimately pay the price.
Any garda attempting to stop them was doing their job. Alot will say the gards do fuck all, however this shite of charging the gard is another piece of proof that the failures lie with our justice system.
We have scum with over 100 convictions being let out to wander the streets, only to break the law again and tell the judge “oh ive learned my lesson this time, I’ll be good” so every time a garda arrests someone it is a pointless endeavour. Why would scum obey the law when they dont get punished? Why would garda work their asses off so they can see criminals back out on the street again and again
If the DPP has any sense whatsoever, they will decline to prosecute as they must be aware of the effect it’ll have on Garda morale, job performance and personnel retention. Clearly the public support the officer and the Minister for Justice must be aware of that.

The rules about Gardaí using their sirens and chasing criminals as mentioned in that article seem a bit daft.
Can’t fathom how DPP is continuing this after now doubt coming under massive pressure from the public, Policing groups but also internally by government.

I have absolutely zero sympathy for the three killed, but I do for the truck driver.
Second of all, we still don’t know the nature of the impending (potential) charge against the Garda.
Third, it should be mandatory life imprisonment for anyone who intentionally drives the wrong way down a motorway to evade Gardai. No exceptions. Right now, it’s a high reward, high risk move that criminals pull. We can’t reduce the risk (to the public), so let’s minimise the reward(by locking them up for that alone). I’ve unfortunately witness an accidental motorway head on collision and I’ll never forget it.
I’m not a big subscriber to “what if” scenarios, but it could easily have been another car with a family that they hit.
Like speeding and drink driving (which the state prosecute based on similar “what if” scenarios), it too is a statistical fact that chasing a driver who is on the wrong side of a motorway is extremely likely to end in an innocent persons death.
I know that they still may have crashed of course, but, if there are clear rules which were broken for the sake of a Gardas ego during the pursuit, which are statistically likely to increase risk to the general public, the actions of the Gardai do need to be looked at.
They should be awarding him for removing three complete scumbags off the streets.
I feel like I’m the only one here against high speed police chases. (I don’t think the Garda should be prosecuted though).
