The title pretty much sums up the question. Translating the package didn’t help much.

  1. A tip for enjoying it: take a couple of slices of your favourite bread, add butter or margarine, a slice of quality cheese and then some of this on top.

  2. Adding a slice on rye bread was mentioned but saaristolaisleipä (the dark and a bit sweet bread) works even better!

  3. To add to the other comments, both gravlax (the cured salmon in the picture) and cold smoked salmon are raw, and are eaten raw. If you find them side-by-side on a buffet, the gravlax is usually the one with dill on top.

Smoked salmon also works well in a pie or soup, where it will become cooked. Have never tried that with gravlax though.

Edit: to address comments below, raw as in uncooked as in not heated (to particularly high temperatures). Not raw as in unprepared.

  4. It’s not raw (imo). It’s “processed”. Compared it to air dried ham or salami. [not saying it’s the same thing, though]

  5. You can not eat it raw because it is not raw. It is cured in salt. But you can eat it as it is. And that is the best way to eat it. On some rye bread.

  6. Well like many here has said it: just eat it.
What I need to add is that it’s not raw. It’s cooked without heat by using salt
