Yeah it’s nuts. I was lucky I moved just as lockdown was being eased but before anyone knew about what the future would look like and whether there’d be a vaccine. Lots of people left the city and lots of students deferred.
Now however, if your landlord sells up then there’s a good chance you’ll have to leave the city entirely because the chances of finding somewhere else are that slim. When I had to deal with problem housemates last year it felt like a life and death situation because I’d be fucked if I’d had to move out.
Agencies really need to be dragged across coals for the whole bidding war malarkey too.
Demand is outstripping supply, partly because many landlords are selling up. The sixth formers on this sub think that’s a great thing because they’re too foolish to realise that often times people buying these former rental homes were living with parents or in HMOs, so resulting in a net loss to the rental market.
This will continue until the corporate landlords have purchased enough stock to have an impact on supply.
It’s not just the UK, this housing crisis is transpiring across the entire developed world. House prices have gone up an INSANE amount. And governments just sit back and watch.
A crash can’t come soon enough.

Most seem to range from £500 to £800 a month in Bristol. Minimum wage for 37.5 hours a week comes to £390.75/week, you should have over £800/month or so left after paying rent. As long as you are on minimum wage its fucking easy, I only had difficulty because I was on part time apprenticeship wages and was priced out of much of the market because of it.
