N-VA chairman Bart De Wever looks ahead to an important year: “If Vlaams Belang cleans up its shit, why not?”

  1. Because they’ll only ‘say’ they clean up their shit.

  2. Great nugget of wisdom there, Bartje:

    >Hij moet nog één brug oversteken: toegeven dat de Europese buitengrenzen dicht moeten. Wie asiel wil, moet buiten Europa zijn aanvraag doen en wie toch illegaal naar hier komt, moet zijn recht op asiel verliezen. Als Conner die brug kan oversteken, kunnen we zaken doen.”

  3. So by 2027 half of Flanders will discover that voting for liars only gets you robbed, and 6 months later they will have forgotten about how they got robbed because “BOO woke is going to take your rights be very very scared and vote for us.”

Too bad I have some conservative values like honesty, discipline, hard work and honor. I would make a great “right wing” politician without them.

  4. > Ik heb vooral schrik van het communisme. Dat is de meest verderfelijke ideologie ooit

    > Als Vlaams Belang zijn shit opkuist, waarom niet?

So yeah, flemish nationalists collaborating with fascists because communists are the real danger.

Where have we heard that before?

  5. I’ve been waiting for this since seeing the latest polls, given the results it was so obvious they were going to open the door to VB.

  6. There’s this song which goes “but I see your true colors” by Cyndi Lauper.

    Sounds fitting.

  7. Can’t Calimero just move to the Netherlands please and leave us people here alone with his non-sense crap.

  8. VB has more in common with PVDA than NVA. Also, a lot of voters would feel betrayed if they’d actually do it.

  9. N-VA and Vlaams Belang don’t even represent the will of 50% of people in Flanders… even in the only region they’re relevant in they don’t actually have a majority. The parties they are closest to (CD&V and Open Vld) are also losing popularity in Flanders, with PVDA and Vooruit rising in the polls.

I always laugh at how these fools think they’ll somehow have the power to divide up Belgium or go for confederalism or whatever at the next election. De Wever in particular always tries to have this authoritative tone when he talks about it, when in reality he only represents a minority view and the actual political circumstances and developments in Belgium today are completely inconsistent with his grandstanding… It is rather comedic in a way. The sad part is that still so many people vote for them.

  10. In France the far right “cleaning their act” made them earn the votes of the center-right and right parties (Renaissance & LR).

A clean VB might be bad news for NVA, not sure why they would want that.

  11. I found the section on him bumbling his way through questions on 10 years of failed education policy with N-VA at the helm a lot more interesting.

Besides that it was more of the same: petty insults and disgruntlement at people returning the favor. And claiming VB *could* work with them but gives no real lines.

  12. His comments on education are completely delusional.

First he claims you need at least 10 years, then when it’s pointed out they’ve already had 10 years and it’s literally worse than ever he tries to claim that he never said he claimed it could be done in 10 years but that he somehow knows they made the right choices (despite this being hard core disagreed with by both the numbers and people in education themselves)

  13. I can’t believe I live in a place where a hateful party like Vlaams Belang is the biggest party. It’s depressing

  14. He’s trying to put himself in the middle of the bed by talking about the VB and making it acceptable… But at this stage, all he’ll achieve is that the elections will be about the VB, again, just like when he bombed the government for the Marrakesh pact. This will result in both the VB and the certainly-not-VB parties gaining ground, but not the NVA. BDW is losing his touch.

  15. Clean up their shit? Like, their voters? Because it’s the trash that votes for such extremist parties a problem, not a party that is just their voice. NVA not far behind, in any civilised country even NVA would be called a radical. But EU has other priorities then clean the scums in Belgium…
