Also, is there anything else that you recommend I buy to try on my next visit? I’ll try anything at least once.

  1. Add the amount of water that is recommended to the pot, add some salt and preferably some smoked meat like bacon or sausage. Boil water. Dice some potatoes. When water is boiling add potatoes. Check if they are soft. If it is real żurek remember potatoes are going to harden if they are in soup for a longer period of time so you can boil them a little bit longer than you usually do. Then add żurek and stir. With self fermented I let it boil so it thicken a bit. Now it is my controversial move. Crack whole egg to a bowl. Pour it to the pot and stir so it breaks down into the soup. Now spices – take garlic crusher and add as much as you like. So a lot. I personally give oregano and basil but it is not traditional way. Enjoy.

  2. More traditional way would be to boil egg beforehand and slice in half/quarters and add to the bowl. Enjoy!

  3. Add boiled egg and white sausage after cooking.

Soup very tasty, traditionally eaten during Easter.

  4. In my home you put in żurek: mashed potatoes mixed with grated horseradish; whole boiled egg; and cream or yoghurt.

You can make your own żurek as well, it’s easy! Just mix some rye flour (aroud 5 spoons) with water (0.5 liter) and add few garlic cloves, pepper cones, bay leafs. Let it sit for a week or two, stirr daily. When it’s sour, it’s ready (it’s called zakwas). Mix zakwas with broth for taste (the soup should be sour, but not as sour as zakwas), boil for few minutes to get żurek.

  5. 1. Add water.
    2. Stir
    3. Toss it in the bin
    4. Buy real zakwas, ideally from babuszka selling it from car boot.
    5…
    6. Enjoy real żur.
    7. Profit.

  6. Ah yes, the great soup of Poland

Good shit (homemade one, on homemade zakwas. never had a powder version)

Normally you’d add sausage, egg and eat it with bread. Some people put potatoes but personally I don’t like it with potatoes.

  7. 1. Cook boulion with potatoes
    2. Mix the bag in some cold water
    3. Pour slowly into the main soup
    4. Add cut sausage and hardboiled eggs
    5. Add sour cream onto the plate
    6. Eat with bread

The bag contains a lot of salt, so make sure you don’t add any to the potato soup. You can always add more salt at the table. Some people also like more majohran, horseradish and garlic, so consider adding those

  8. This is my favourite way:

I boil the necessary amount of water with some smoked spare ribs, chopped up kielbasa, some onions, and garlic. Then when its done boiling for awhile ill add the powder and cook for 5 more mins. Add some boiled eggs to your bowl and youre eating good.

Sometimes my uncle makes it with chicken stock and adds kielbasa and its good that way as well, i prefer boiling up the smoked spareribs though. Ive had it plain with water like the instructions and its not bad, but definitely not as good.

You can also make skip the powder if youre got some rye flour and make the real deal.

  9. Eggs, add eggs. Boil them until they will become hard and then cut them in a half. Add them right before serving.

  10. Side note: I recommend not buying anything from Winiary, as they’re owned by Nestle, and fuck Nestle.

  11. I like these, very easy and quick dinner for when you can’t bother making anything more complicated. Make sure to add sliced sausage, sliced eggs, and boiled potatoes. Id also reccomend some sour cream. I would also reccomend to blend the powder with a smaller amount of cold water before adding it to the pot becouse the powder tends to clump up.

  12. Add fresh Polish sausage (vs smoked kiełbasa) & hard boiled egg. Since this is an instant soup make sure your raw, uncooked & uncured meat is cooked before eating.

  13. Omgg I love those things! Yes, it’s just that easy. When my wife is away, I can’t make that to save my life, but she leaves these at the house

  14. Hard boiled egg and kiełbasa, any herb wouldn’t be too much

  15. Love it with eggs sliced into halves or quarters) and then with just a few thinly sliced sauges, and served piping hot.

  16. Winiary is a big no-no for me.
Use real zakwas, some smoked bacon, white kiełbasa and eggs.

  17. You should take bread because “bez chleba się nie najesz” 😉

  18. Yeah, but it’s really not żurek. Try making one from a bottle.

  19. Its like instant soup but better and healthier. You have exact instructions on the back send another photo and I can translate it for you.

  20. You can, but also you may want to upgrade it 🙂

I am adding water – a bit ore than package says – a clove of garlic, 1-2 allspice pieces, bay leaf and marjoram. When it’s heated (be vary of it overboilng from the pot), I am adding sliced kiełbasa. Then, at the end of cooking, a sour cream (you know, put cream in a little bowl, add hot soup slowly, stir, so it wont clot, then up you go to the pot…). Salt and pepper to taste. And that’s it. Better than basic 🙂

  21. Yesss the great soup of Poland!!! Add some white sausage, egg, and potatoes(potatoes optional) for a more traditional soup.

  22. First question one should ask: is żurek safe for foreigners?

  23. They missed the real taste by miles. I would not recommend eating it. Try instead “Barszcz czerwony” from the same company – Winiary. It tastes way better and more authetic. Pick up some pastry or dumplings filled with meat as it should go with the soup quite nicely (pastry as side dish but dumplings you can throw in). I think “Tarty chrzan” would be also an interesting taste for you, mix it with mayonese to achieve supersauce.

  24. Add some cream and horseradish, but best zurek comes from a bottle

  25. It’s not bad, but you need more spices, SOUR cream and of course sime oni9n, white sausages as well as an egg.

  26. First, cook the broth on the meat. While stirring, add the powder and it’s done.

  27. It is much better with some white sausage and egg, but it’s also good by itself! Enjoy!

  28. It’s not that easy.
Proper Żurek is made for around 3 hours.
    .
Better go to Bar Mleczny bistro and eat the Żurek there.

  29. Whenever I get one of these I boil the water first with some:
    – All spice (not crushed)
    – bay leaf
    – 1 medium onion (peeled and halved)
    – 1 tsp mayoram
    – 1 clove garlic
    – 1 slice of dried wild mushroom
(I boil the eggs and potatoes separately and add them towards the end)
When it comes to a boil add the contents of the bag according to instructions .

I sometimes like to add some sour cream at the end to make it a bit smoother depending on what I’m in the mood for)

    Edit: forgot about mushroom!
