It’s the 13th, meaning it’s time for my Reddit update.
(Start weight 22 stone 5 / 142kg / 313lb)
#Drumroll…I’m down a total of 5 stone 13 pounds / 83 pounds / 37.6kg in 11 months
SIGH
#Same weight as last month
I’m still 16 stone 6 / 104kg / 230 pounds
It’s been a very difficult month. I can hear my 6th class teacher’s voice, Mrs. Reid in my head saying
“You’ve let me down, you’ve let Reddit down. But most of all you’ve let yourself down”
For the first two weeks of the month I actually gained 5 pounds. So I swallowed my pride and got some expert advice. More protein, more exercise, more carbs. As you know I have been vehemently against any form of exercise. I just hate it all. But my work circumstances have changed, meaning instead of driving to work, I now have to get the train. So, in spite of myself, I’m walking for at least half an hour 5 days a week. Not much, but 100% more than I was doing before
I was eating practically zero carbs and not enough protein. In the last 2 weeks, a combination of these changes have now helped me lose those 5 pounds so I hope I have the right balance going forward. Oh, I’m also off Ozempic because of the global shortage so I feel like it’s all very new and scary once again
Anyway, I’m on the right track. [Here’s a visual equivalent of how much weight I’ve lost](https://martialartsireland.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/rhvy-80-02.png), or [17 watermelons](https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/wheelbarrow-full-watermelons-big-197502113.jpg)
[And here’s the visual equivalent of the crushing shame I feel for feeling like a bit of a failure this month](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/villains/images/7/72/Wicked_Witch_of_the_East_is_dead.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110608234004)

Congrats keep it going cheering you up along the way !
Keep the chin up your progress has been amazing! Progress is not linear as frustrating as that can be at times
Delighted for you, that’s some achievement. Keep at it, you got this!
As some on in their mid 30s who is noticing the pounds starting to pile up, I take these posts as an inspiration and blueprint.
Thanking you and keep it up.
Honestly, you’re doing absolutely amazing. An inspiration to us all.
Please do not let the lack of loss discourage you! Do not let it win! I’m pretty sure everyone who’s doing a big weightloss gets stuck on a certain weight before losing some more. Keep that determination going!
Dude your doing great ! Fuck the numbers. Even when they stall your still getting healthier . Keep fighting the good fight . Great job .
That’s an amazing achievement. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
Just a gentle reminder, muscle mass is more dense than fat mass.
You can be losing size/bulk and trimming up but the numbers on the scale can be holding steady or going up. Don’t beat yourself up too much about it
Fuck Mrs Reid. Well done hey
Last month I promised I would be on my best behaviour until your next update.. and I was! Until I had a five night trip to Munich that is… Mini Oktoberfest with litres of beer and giant pretzels bigger than my head! Like you, I was straight up 5lbs, but I’ve reclaimed that and … I’m pretty much the same weight as last month too!
But shit happens, we adjust and overcome! Well done on the walking and exercise. I’d advise you to start taking measurements (waist/hips/thighs) as you will hopefully start replacing fat with muscle, but that may stall your weigh-ins. The tape measure will show the work you’re still putting in!
I’m walking at least 5k every day lost 10kg from 1 January give up all sugar, fizzy and alco. Was 116 now 106 slowly but surely down walked over 800k need another pair of shoes. So Op keep going and 🤞
I like the watermelon for a visual!
Fair play mate, you should take some before after pics.
Congratulations on keeping off the weight Maybe you’re in a temporary maintenance phase, but you lost some weight and you kept off the weight you lost.
Walking is criminally underated, i’ve been getting 10k steps in per day for the past month and the flab is flying off.
Stepped on the scale myself last week and was the heaviest I’ve been, goal is to lose about 10kg over the summer have began counting calories
If progress was linear sure we’d all be at it. And look at it this way you’ve already taken the steps to make the necessary adjustments and back to losing the weight again. If you hadn’t failed would you have gotten the chance to learn more about your diet? Maybe, maybe not. But I’d see this as a win!
As Ronan Keating once sang – weight looooossss is a rollercoaster.

5 stone is an absolutely incredible achievement. Monumental. You should feel happy with the progress you made and be patient with what you’ve got left to do.
But also know that weight loss isn’t a sprint but a marathon you do all your life. And the steps you’re taking now is making it a longer.
Keep your chin up and be happy with the, presumably, multiple chins you’ve lost.
You legend! Well done
I was making dinner the other day and thought “that Reddit weight loss guy” and I made a better dinner choice. Definitely not a failure.
Nearly 40 kg lost is amazing! If you can’t visualise it, try lifting 40 bags of sugar, 8 5kg sacks of potatoes or 2 20kg sacks of bird seed. And even if you didn’t lose anything in a month, you didn’t gain anything either. And weight doesn’t tell the whole story – if you are becoming more active you may have lost fat weight but gained muscle weight.
Hey man, I’m glad to hear about your progress! It’s really good! It’s important you keep going! Not everyone can do what you’ve managed to achieve! 37 kilos in 11 months is really fucking good. Don’t let those bad thoughts get in your head and hold you back. You’ve made it so far. Just keep pushing. You’ll get to your desired goal in no time and guess who’ll be proud? YOU! You’ll thank yourself for sticking to the process! Keep going man! I’m super proud of you! 💪💪💪💪
Amazing. You’re smashing it.
Now, not loosing weight month to month is not necessarily a bad thing.
You’re more active, with some exercise daily. You very well could have lost body fat and just replaced that weight with muscle. An in body scan will show you exactly we’re you’re at.
Whatever you’re doing, keep it. You’re inspiring others and more importantly, getting healthier.
Fair play OP. I’m an overweight male as well and have had ups and downs in trying to deal with my own weight so its always encouraging to see the positive progress others are making.
Awesome going. The struggle with weight loss is hard.
This is actually really good news. You’ve taken steps towards better nutrition by the sounds of things and although you’re against exercise those walks will make a big difference at your current weight to help bring you down further. Congrats. Be excited for your incoming achievements in the next month.
Well done dude keep going I bet you feel on top of the world 👍🏼
I lost 30kg in about 9 months back in 2018 but I was definitely at the exercise too. Our start weights were close enough too (133 for me). The loss curve was nowhere near linear but it trended down and to the right most months. Truth is it’s very easy to lose at the start when just existing at that weight exceeds the recommended daily caloric intake. But as you get lighter you’re in less of a deficit, so loss slows down. At this point you add exercise or drop more cals, do both or just accept it’s slower now. The last 6kg I lost to get under the 100 were so much harder for me – busier time in life, experimentation, finding balance etc.
You have to keep the faith, you’re doing fucking great. I’ll bet your old clothes are swimming on you and you’re down several sizes. Does not seem like a failure to me. You had two rough weeks and clawed it back (almost a stone!) in 2 weeks with some hard graft. Does not seem like a failure to me. Cast month 11 aside, as you did months 1-10
See you next month for your update. Onwards and downwards!
Your post gave me the kick in the arse to lose 10kg. Thank you.
Wow, impressive
Keep it up man, you’re doing great!
Tell Mrs Reid to go fuck herself.
You are not.a failure. This is a blip. A mere stumbling block.
Head up high gal, next month is a new month.
Chin up! Staying static isn’t bad, the worrying part is if you consistently head the other direction!
I’m the running guy, I’m down to 93kg now, not a huge drop since the last time, but I was sick for a week which stopped me from running and I always eat worse when I don’t feel right! Ran 14km today, 41k for the week, so getting back into it
8 weeks til the half marathon, 8 more weeks of 4-5 hours a week of running!
You probably won’t see this, but I’m a high school teacher. Fuck your 6th grade teacher- I’ve followed since your first post.
I’m so proud of you. Success isn’t reaching a goal – it’s how we persevere through the hard times. Always talk to yourself kindly – like how you’d want a stranger to treat your ma.
You make me proud. Every day. Full stop.
You are killing it! Maintaining your weight loss is still great when life stuff is changing. You’ve lost six stone practically! That’s incredible. I know you have further to go for your own satisfaction, but you’re doing brilliantly.
Any progress is progress. Keep going mate
I love your monthly updates! I’ve no idea who you are but yet I’m always really proud of you when I see them pop up. You’re great, and you’re doing great! ❤️
You were always going to hit a point where things went wrong, and you might well do so again. But you now know if that happens its not the end and you can overcome it.
Well done on not giving up and don’t be afraid to look for help if you need it.
I’m delighted you have taken up some exercise although I am the same in hating it. Exercise doesn’t do much for weight loss, but it does significantly improve health. If you can find a friend to share the walk with it can be a lot more enjoyable.
You’re not letting ANYONE down. We’re all individuals, we all have lives and emotions, our bodies decide to mess about in different ways when you limit calorie intake.
We’re designed to store fuel for famine situations. When we say knock it off, our bodies will argue. The bastards.
BESIDES – you did NOT GAIN. You were stable. This is a HUGE win. Especially if you were on ozempic and now you’re not????? HUGE WIN.
I’m guessing before you decided to work on your weight, you’d have made decisions that would have started the scale creeping back up.
Buddy I’m not Irish. I’m just here to read the goddamn brilliant shit talk in the comments. But you, you should be proud, and you should know that some idiot yank is also very proud of you.
Cheers
Well done, you!
When you hear your teacher’s voice in your head, just tell her to shut the hell up! We are all bound to be self-critical, it’s just human but self-compassion is the way.
Remember that weight is just a number. The important things are that you now make healthier food choices and you have a healthy lifestyle. I know it’s hard to not focus on that number but really it’s just a number.
You made a life choice and you are sticking to it. Any progress is a progress. So, you didn’t lose what you wanted in the timeframe you wanted? Well, you are now walking 30 mins every day and checking your macronutrients more closely. That is a win to me and hopefully you can see it yourself.
Also, as much as I know that it’s in a joking way, don’t call yourself a fat f*uck. Even if it’s to be humorous, it still is a negative influence. You’re a beautiful human caterpillar (not centipede :P) going through your journey of transformation.
I can also suggest a podcast i love that talks about food and health, is called “The doctor’s kitchen” (available on various platforms). I listened to a few episodes about weight loss, the role of fat etc. I highly recommend it to understand a bit better about our body.
It’s a journey and it lasts a lifetime. Be compassionate to yourself. Enjoy the little wins and one step at a time. It’s not a race. It’s your life. ♥️
Plateaus are totally normal. Keep strong, Plateaus caused me to revert back to original weight TWICE. I’m now doing this over for the 3rd time in 10 years.
I got disheartened, said fuck this to everything, ate my feelings and climbed back to over 20 stone. I excused it away with work and home and sick kids and everything else.
Learn from my mistakes, keep pushing, make small changes during your Plateaus, it means your body got used to the set of circumstances you put on it and it adapted. I understand that now. I wish I did all those years ago.
I also learned weight training was better for weight loss and toning than cardio (which is still important), as I stuck to pure cardio for 4 months in the lead up to a holiday last year and didn’t lose a single pound.
Your an inspiration to many on here, and without taking it the wrong way, seeing you have a month were you struggled and don’t have the result you wanted, shows others that it’s normal too. Even without knowing you, so many people are proud of what you have achieved and are thankful for you sharing. 💛
Keep tracking it and reporting it.
Fair play for spotting that you’d hit a bit of a wall and gained again and managed to diagnose and fix things.
I would say as a formerly bigger fella myself, I couldn’t “exercise” when I was up at 17 stone. It was just hard on the body. I too have to change my diet, reap the benefits and then started to exercise. Man, the mental benefits when I hit that phase were class. You go for a hard walk/hike or a jog and you have more energy than before.
I’m loving your posts and psyched that you’re reaching that milestone where you’re gonna be able to no only get some exercise in, but enjoy it. It’ll still sound far fetched at the moment, but an hour long walk in the evening with a podcast becomes a highlight for you and when you weigh yourself after an active week, you can see the impact, well, part of it will be muscle growth so the weight change won’t be as dramatic as from diet early on, but it feels a lot better. And it changes your appearance and body shape a lot.
I’ve been meaning to get back exercising again after a year off (gained back a stone since my best) so I’m going for a jog tonight in your honour. Good luck lad. Chat to you next month.
