I will try to keep this brief.

Iam a czech student who’s been to your beautiful country two times. On both occasions it’s been a two week part-time job/internship in an undisclosed tech. company. This year it’s taken place in early February.

So, the thing is, roughly a week ago I’ve recieved a letter ( [https://imgur.com/a/IpDVkvP](https://imgur.com/a/IpDVkvP) ) regarding some kind of insurance and a social sec. number. Iam not aware of signing up for any kind of insurance regarding my trip to Austria, this year. I did run it through google lens and translate it to english, but still couldn’t make much sense of what it actually means for me. I hope I don’t have to pay anything, since I’m just a student and I don’t have any regular income.

Please, if I have accidentally ommited any important information or context, let me know. Iam thankful for any of your responses and help regarding the letter and what should I do with it.

Love y’all and your beautiful country. And thank you for helping out, once again.

  1. Hi,

this is just an information letter that they have received the information of your employer about your job which is small enough that the employer does not have to pay for insurance.

They want to inform you about the possibility of a cheap self insurance with the ÖGK and also about the duty to pay the full insurance if you have multiple jobs that total in more than the 500 Euros a month.

  2. You can safely ignore it, it only means you could take an additional health insurance, because you aren’t automatically insured because you earned to little. I got the same letter as a student with a part time job.

  3. It says that you are working in austria but getting less than 500 €/month.
In that situation you dont have to pay social security tax.
But it informs you that you must be aware if you have more than one job in Austria because salaries sum up.
Besides that they offer you that you pay 70€/month to get social security protection (you get health insurance and collect months for retirement plan). But this is a voluntarily offer, you dont have to pay it.

Edit: removed unemployment insurance from benefits of voluntary social security tax)
