Parking meters on streets, thoughts?

  1. It’s incredible how people will grasp at any solution or blame anything apart from the real underlying problem: overpopulation.

Parking meters will continue to uglify Malta and contribute to its transition to a soulless, multicultural, city hellscape that it is fast approaching in many areas.

  2. Penalizing the population for utilizing the only real viable method of transportation is always a ‘no’ from me.

These types of ideas should only be implemented after we have a decent public transportation. Until then, this is just another revenue of income for the govt and Id rather not give them any more money.

  3. /r/fuckcars leaking.

No thanks, cost of living is already through the roof, let’s not keep adding to it.

  4. Businessman proposes something which would make more people use his business.

Yeah no thanks. Fuck that guy.

  5. Tax on the poor.

The rich either already have a garage or won’t care.

The poor, which still needs a car to go to work, is suddenly faced with a new tax.

  6. I honestly can’t think why the CEO of a taxi company wants to make personal transport more expensive than, say, taking a taxi! 🤣💰💰💰

  7. hahahahahahahaha they wouldn’t survive the first night bro.

We need a goddamn fast and on time metro and all of our problems are fixed. I would sell my car in a heartbeat if there was decent public transport. Busses don’t cut it. They are too unreliable and unprofessional.

  8. It’s cute that parking meters are in the debate, and that Lovin even takes the time to publish an article about it. This weekend alone we had 1 traffic death and 4 seriously injured, in a country of 500 000 people in the developed world. It is simply unacceptable. I think the CEO of one of the biggest cab companies on the island and one of the biggest media outlets (Lovin) need to wake up and worry about the issues that matter when it comes to traffic. Accident prevention, traffic behavior, drunk driving and enforcement is what should be in the public debate. Not parking meters….

  9. Don’t you fucking dare…

We have enough parking problems thanks to people buying more cars and for some stupid reason buying big cars like fkn Land rovers making it more difficult to park between these fkn mammoths.

Other than that, since most of the island is incompetent at driving cars, people are scared to buy bikes to make life more easy and simple, so now you got Wolt/Bolt and regular bikers using a whole car space for a single bike ffs.

We need a literal block or at least three blocks in each locality which will be used only for car parking, rather than higher apartments which will be empty when all of the foreign workforce leaves when their visa is revoked or expired.

  10. My landlord decides she needs 3 spots that she doesn’t use, so when I get a car (because I’m tired of taking 90 mins across 2-3 buses to travel 9km), and I have nowhere to park except 9nthe street, then fuck me, right?

I want to use public transport. Fuck, I want to cycle! But the infrastructure and service are atrocious, so I don’t have a choice anymore.

Malta is a tiny country that is unfortunately so terribly designed. It should be a cycling utopia.

  11. If there is no alternative… you will inflict more damage.

Of course, this is the owner of a taxi company that came up with this suggestion, but not everyone affords to go where needed with a taxi. Public transport is crap so basically you will just add another “tax” on the road that everyone has to pay and the traffic problem won’t be solved anyway.
