Hello,
Hoping someone with more knowledge can help me. I’m an American whose grandparent and great grandparent came to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia.
I’m trying to figure out where the town/village is located that’s listed on my great grandfathers log at Ellis Island when arriving in the U.S.
It’s Andrej Brudnak on line 8. There is some scribble / handwritten notes on the attached document but it looks like his city or town of birth was “Niz(something can’t tell) Mirosi.
And I can’t seem to find / figure out where this town or village is and if it’s in fact now current day Slovakia or Czech Republic.
Any help would be greatly be appreciated!

Nižný Mirošov

I asked Google about “names of settlements in Slovakia” in Slovak
názvy obcí na slovensku
Then I clicked on one of the first results [here](http://www.sodbtn.sk/obce/abeceda.php)
And it looks like there is Nižný Mirošov in the north eastern part of the country. It is very near a bigger town called Svidník.
There were many, many people emigrating from this very poor region.
Nižný in Slovak means “lower”
Edited to add:
I looked at a [list of names of Czech settlements beginning with N](https://wwwinfo.mfcr.cz/ares/obce/obce_abc_N.html.cz) and there is no similar sounding village/town. In Czech the word “lower” in geographical names is witten “Nižní”
Check this out.

Nice,
My grandfather and his parents came from Nižná Pisaná, which is super close to Nižný Mirošov. You looking to apply to the SLA?
You’re definitely eligible for the SLA.
You’re also likely eligible for Slovak citizenship, but this would depend on a bunch of other factors (namely naturalization).
You wouldn’t be eligible for Czech citizenship.
