  1. Well….good.

Now, if they show me a real environmental policy I might actually vote for them….

  2. Heart stopped for a moment. Not a shinner but writings on the walls. Thought they were pledging an Irexit, glad I read the article lol, it’s too early.

  3. While I think that is practical from a defence and foreign policy perspective, this is the sort of issue that can get really divisive with political figures from left wing politics. Policies while in opposition don’t always make good government policies.

  4. Irexit??? Lmao gtfo… who wants to go back to the 70s & 80s? Surely, the majority of our population won’t be fooled by the racist bigoted bs that’s spewed by those who need division to achieve their goals? Brexit was a vehicle dreamt up by the super rich to avoid scrutiny and to remove workers’ rights. All we need to do is look across the water to the UK becoming a basket case ffs

  5. Nato? Sure

But why the EU? doesn’t have much logic behind it, one of the reasons we don’t need to join NATO is because of the EU defense pact

  6. How much have the EU paid them? If only the Brits had thought to pay off SF during the troubles. Who’d have thought self serving politicians would serve themselves for cash ?

  7. Ah, you got to love those populists. They were pro-Putin right up until he invaded Ukraine. Only changed their tack after that.

  8. Sinn Fein’s policies are being fashioned to match the opinions of the demographic they require to win future elections, they will gradually abandon their left wing/edgy student base, as it’s target demographic matures & shifts to the right.

  9. Leaving the EU would harm the chances of a united Ireland. The more unionists in NI throw roadblocks in the trade agreements the more they will iritate those that aren’t staunch. Ireland out of the EU would be a win for them.

  10. This is unfortunate, the erosion of Irish neutrality is very concerning to me, it would’ve been nice to have a major party properly stand up for it. I’ll be reconsidering my support of SF going forward, they seem to be diluting their policies to be more in line with the centre-right FF and FG. Very disappointing and not offering a proper alternative to the parties currently in power.

  11. Inevitable

    Power demands compromise

Piss of our allies and watch the tax revenue dry up. That would mean SF would forever be credited with sinking the economy.

Easy to be bold in opposition but governing is another thing entirely

  12. Is the joining NATO thing popular right now?

What’s interesting about all this is that being anti EU (EEC) and NATO was fairly fashionable in left thinking circles until Brexit and the the Ukraine war.

  13. Nope fuck this. I was very eager to vote Sinn Fein this election, mostly out of hatred for the other two shower of wankers. The only thing I hate more than those two is Russia and people trying to compromise with Russia. Compromise with them is like a bully coming over and taking your sandwich, you fight to get your sandwich back only for someone to intervene and say that you should cut the sandwich in half and share it

  14. Irish-American leftist coming in somewhat peace with a question: Do Irish folks think it was morally right to be neutral during WWII? America has obviously not had a very good track record since WWII on justified wars, but neutrality doesn’t seem like a particularly noble position in a world filled with injustice. (Also, let’s be honest, Ireland can only remain neutral because Irish-Americans would never allow anything to happen to Ireland, so you have the strongest military on the planet as a protector).

  15. i used to be a firm shinner but i’m losing hope in them. they seem to be moving firmly towards the centre. i hope this is just for votes and maybe they’ll skirt back to the left a wee bit when they’re in government (which is almost certainly going to happen) but i doubt it.
