Colourised 1890s photo of the River Lee and St. Partick’s Bridge in Cork City, and in the background the Shandon Bells and Clock Tower of St Anne’s Church known to Corkonians as “The Four-Faced Liar”.

  1. Some things to note – look at the green fields in the background. It’s crazy how small Cork was back then. (In fact, I’ve seen aerial photos of Cork where the city didn’t extend to the Lough, and Centre Park was still a huge park).

I hadn’t seen that archway on Carrol’s Quay, I assume that’s just a bridge with the waterway continuing up North. (Carrol’s Quay was only culverted pretty recently – see [here](https://twitter.com/JTPHealy/status/1589009033083904000))

Funny seeing that nice building on the quayside with the arched windows; that’s now 3 times the width so it must have been (restored? extended?) since then. It’s soon to be the facade of a new hotel, hopefully they’ll do a good job on the restoration. I’d love to know if there’s nice brick under the render, it could be spectacular if done right.

  2. I used to live in the red brick building on the right. Just a few doors up. Fantastic high ceiling 2 bed, 2 bathroom and huuuuge living area for 900 a month myself about 5 years ago. Love seeing it pop up in old images.
