That’s ok, a brief scan of the rags shows most journalists don’t understand journalism these days either.
> Rob Burley claims that an element of the BBC’s core purpose, the interrogation of politicians and scrutiny of policy, is now being “pretty much thrown away”.
Sounds like the DG understands journalism very well, and wants to make sure it cant be done properly.
He’s a failed Tory MP candidate they had to put him somewhere…. Where better than that old gov revolving door that is the BBC.
It’s all a bit rich coming from Rob Burley, the man who spent decades producing pro-Brexit propaganda with Andrew Neil across the BBC’s political shows. It’s like he thinks we all forgot what Daily/Sunday Politics and This Week were like under his tenure.
He wasn’t given the job for journalism, he was given it to push an agenda. The fact the bbc news is now propaganda for the Tory party is a success for him
He understands it enough to modify how the BBC reports on issues. He might not understand the true intricacies of it but he knows what people want to hear and how to direct traffic to certain articles designed to inflame people’s emotions. That is all a lot of journalists and their managers do and want. If he understands that then he understands the cesspool that is modern journalism.
