I remember a speech of Arnon Grunberg, a Dutch writer who is the child of holocaust survivors. He made a very clear statement regarding the discrimination of Moroccans and seeing them as one group.
He said that whenever you were going to say something that would generalize and/or would say something negative to a certain etnic/religious or other group as a whole you should replace the group you were going to depict as scum or evil or bad. Would you get away if you would replace the group in your sentence with “The Jews”.
Most likely a lot of things said by people would not be seen okay when you would say this about Jews because of the obvious history. Don’t forget that the Holocaust also started that way. Generalizing an entire group as if they were all the same people. Look what happened there in the following years…
Would you get away with a statement about how you would keep the theatre free of “Jewish gaze”? You would probably not…
