Single use vapes sparking surge in fires at UK waste plants

  1. When will the government act on these awful things? We are happy to ban plastic straws and cotton buds but disposable vapes containing plastic, lithium and the remains of liquids that are toxic when enough is ingested are perfectly fine? Corner shops are even selling illegally imported American ones with larger capacities than we allow, further increasing the risk of some animal getting poisoned by one that’s been thrown on the roadside, they are an absolute blight.

  2. We chuck 600 million batteries away each year in the UK. Not defending disposable vapes, I think they’re unnecessarily wasteful, I just don’t see why there’s a sudden surge in fires at waste plants because of them.

  3. Honestly they seem to plague our woodland areas now with cunts just dropping them wherever they like. People cannot be trusted to dispose of them correctly so fuck em.

  4. I live round from a shop that sells these and is a popular hotspot for chavy car types, I see them all over the road just tossed out of car windows, it seems like such a waste of material.

  5. I dropped mine into the middle of a piping hot radiator once, was a huge panic as I was a secret vaper vaping out the window.

Turned off the radiator, trickled cold water down on it, absorbed by a towel for 20 minutes which I had to keep squeezing out.

That was the day I quit.

  6. Ban these fucking things.

The people who use them often chuck the packaging everywhere and sometimes the vape when they are done.

It’s mostly school kids by the looks of it.

  7. I don’t understand these things, normal vapes that you tip up with liquid are perfectly fine, why spend more money on wasteful disposable ones. I work with my cousin and he goes through one every two days.

  8. They’re so fucking wasteful, most of them are using lipo batteries that are -entirely- rechargeable, a fair few could even be refilled if you were so inclined.

They exist soley because it’s easier to keep selling your product if it’s designed to be thrown away.

  9. These vapes must be absolutely banned, I see them everywhere in London, randomly thrown on the streets. Should I mention that ALL teenagers are using them?! That’s very concerning because vapes are harmful for the heart and lungs

  10. I don’t really understand the product; surely no one would sell any significant number of, say, single-use pipes with the bowl pre-packed?

  11. Remember when your mum would send you to the shop with empty pop bottles and you got 15p?

Something similar, return 10 empties for reuse/recycling get one free.

  12. Singles use vapes should absolutely be outlawed! The amount of them I see thrown on the ground is astonishing! It’s not just the plastic involved it’s the fact that they all have batteries in them that’s worse!

  13. Single use vapes really are something that need to be banned, they use a massive amount of material for something of such limited use and the sheer number of them I see just thrown on the ground is horrifying.

Also, there’s a dark irony that electronic cigarettes, which were developed as a means to help people overcome smoking habits, have become a new means to sell nicotine to people, though I guess it really shouldn’t be surprising.

  14. It’s basically cigarettes all over again. They’ve stopped under 18s buying them but they’re still getting their hands on em. There’s so many of these fuckers everywhere and it’s horrible they’re not being disposed of properly. Make vape shops give people an incentive to dispose of them properly at the very least. Fuck sake tories

  15. They’re all over the floors everywhere, they just get thrown in the bin. Entirely on the government for allowing this disgusting single use battery bullshit

  16. Rechargeable ones just aren’t as easy or accessible to use, that’s the issue. I vaped for a long time and I had a rechargeable one but still bought a couple disposables a week because it was impossible to find pods for my rechargeable in any shop. Even the proper vape shops near me didn’t sell them. Disposable vapes are made so accessible and rechargeable vapes are made so inaccessible – why do you think there’s been a huge uptick in their use?

Disposables need to be more tightly regulated, but vaping as a whole should still be encouraged as a far far safer alternative to smoking. There’s lots of misinformation out there.

  17. We need to stop this. We know it’s a problem. Even if we forget about the climate crisis we have a plastic crisis. It’s in our rivers & seas and there’s micro plastics in sea salt. We need to act like we did for CFCs and countries around the world need to sign up to legislate against unnecessary plastics. I’m sure there will be some medical things where’s it’s more sanitary etc. but we can stop wrapping individual bananas in plastic and encourage the search for alternatives.

    Edit: fixed a typo

  18. So I’ve always disliked vaping but until this point where it was people building their vape rigs with a 4090 on it, it wasn’t the worst thing in the world, but these things are hideous

Garbage on every street corner, reminds me of when a big weekend happens and theres nos cannisters everywhere except all the time

No shame on anyones hobbies but i can’t deal with littering

  19. Long time vaper, done all the stuff, big cloud ones , small nic salt etc etc .
Had a stint on these and they are very addictive and so readily available.
I’ve knocked them on the head and back on a reusable tank type vape now , you can buy the exact flavours in bottle form these days .
The stupid tpd laws limit liquid to 2ml in uk , this doesn’t help the environment at all, as the larger tank ones are illegal , seems dumb to me .
Anyway I am also against these things , they should be banned , a total waste of plastic and batteries . The govt need to ban them now , streets are littered with them , to readily available for kids etc . They can self fire , I had one do it in my pocket . Something bad will happen soon and then they will be banned . But they should act before something bad actually happens

  20. Everywhere you go, everywhere you gooo
People you see, people you see
    Are always vaping, aaalways vaping

It’s everywhere, they’re everywhere. Seen schoolchildren in their droves come out of corner shops with handfuls of them. The amount of nicotine in them is so bad that if you finish one in a day and a half you’re already addicted. They need to be banned.

  21. The other day I saw the saddest thing, there was a colourful add, and a toddler was fixated by the colours and pointing and smiling, shits wrong

  22. Perhaps charge a deposit when you buy, which is given back when taken to designation waste points, which are able to dispose of them properly. If you made this £1-2, I bet you wouldn’t see any on the floor anymore.
