Couple driven from home in Dumbarton by ‘paedophile hunters’

  1. Yeah these wannabe viginates are getting more and more dangerous.

Mark my words its only a matter of time to start stringing people up from the lampposts. We really need to crack down upon them, but of course the government in their infinite wisdom gutted the police, the courts and the social services.

  2. What even causes a buildup in these vigilante cases? Presumably one person isn’t calling them a nonce and inciting 300 people as a result?

I’m not implying they’re not innocent, I’m just genuinely intrigued by what caused such a snowball effect that it leads to this?

  3. I think vigilante justice is a symptom of a wider problem that the police or system has failed to make people feel safe / that justice is served.

As the sentiment that the police don’t do anything gets worse I would expect more and more people to take the law into their own hands.

Not that I condone it or welcome it.

  4. These vigilantes want clout online and/or are protesting too much if you know what I mean. I really don’t think they care about children at all.

  5. I just remember years ago a Paeditrician ( specialist childrens dr) being hounded , harrassed, terrified & house spraypainted by some brainless cretins who thought anyone with ‘Paed’ associated with them was a fecking paedophile .

  6. >”Yet here I am in this situation where I’ve got all these people believing that he has without a shred of evidence – apart from a [social media] post.”

    >Ms McLean said they have tried to remove the post for years, and her partner has become withdrawn and isolated as a result of the accusations.

Interesting that the BBC sees fit to censor the name of the social media site that’s allegedly been making it hard to get the post removed.

  7. These paedo hunters have always sat really badly with me.

Mainly because every single one I’ve happened to come across in real life is an absolute scum bag in their own way: things like dog baiting are almost par for the course, far-right membership and probably a propensity to some crime like petty theft is not exactly surprising.

I’ve always suspected a main driver to being part of this sort of mob justice is a desire to not be as bad as those other guys

  8. This shit worries me

My dad was falsely accused of being a paedo many years back but unfortunately despite the fact he was found innocent my mum’s side of the family are still insistent that he did something

I really worry about people coming to take my dad away from me after I already lost my mum last month

  9. I knew someone who was targeted by one of these groups. He lost everything, including his family. The group ended up admitting they had the wrong person and the police cleared him. There are people who think he still must have done something.

  10. They should take the social media site to the cleaners and expose the originator, who should be charged for libel.

  11. I’ve seen a few videos of people being targeted and they seem mentally disabled. I wonder how many cases are entrapment of intellectually challenged folk who would play along with any potential fling and cannot actually think about the concept of age much?

  12. Bad news: You get driven out of your house by a bunch of knuckle-dragging sub-monkeys playing vigilante.

Good news: Your house is in Dumbarton.

  13. Always been one of those fears in the back of my mind. I can’t imagine how awful it is to suddenly be branded a nonce on social media.

The fear of leaving your own house and everything that goes with that. Always reminds me of the black mirror episode Hated in the Nation

  14. If these prats are anything like the Paedophile Hunters we had in NI, it turns out the majority of the main “hunters” had a long list of associated crimes in their past, and some where lated convicted of paedophilia.

One of the main guys took issue with his details & address being plastered online when his last was found out.

Even more worrying was the usual Facebook mummies began offering their kids up to be used in stings.

  15. You have to consider how many of the people they target have children themselves, and the harm that causes these children to have their father and home livestreamed.

It’s hard enough being a teenager without the whole neighbourhood believing your dad is a sex offender. That publicity must be traumatic for the child, and surely those who livestream hold responsibility for the harm caused.
