Putin blames West for tensions since end of Cold War

  1. Could someone introduce him to one of Paradox historical strategy games so he can blow some steam off?

  2. You can literally just not invade Georgia and Ukraine and be a million times better off with an actually growing economy.

Throw in not funding a Syrian dictator or supporting terrorist regimes in the name of chaos and you’d be many million times better.

  3. Let’s not act like the west is all inocent. Russia is not a good guy but sure as hell USA and NATO aren’t as well.

They’re both in a power struggle just because you are in favor of one evil instead of another doesn’t mean you’re right.

  4. I mean he isnt wrong. That’s not to say Russia doesnt hold much of of the blame too, especially in the Putin era but anyone who has read about Russia in the 90’s knows how much the America (but the west too) went out of their way to fuck over Russia. They won the cold war and they were damn sure going to make Russia knows it.

  5. Russia (and it’s mercenaries like le pen) like to complain about NATO not respecting Russian sovereignty, while in parallel showing no respect for the sovereignty of neighbours they formerly occupied.

save us the self pity and show the baltics, poland and Ukraine etc the same respect you want for yourselves.

  6. You know who’s not to blame? Putin! Putin has never shown an act of aggression, never supported foreign dictators, never meddled in other countries elections and is generally working as a force of peace in the world. /s

  7. The West has certainly contributed to the tensions, but not to a “let me invade neighbouring countries” degree.

Example Ukraine: Creating an association treaty with the EU that is mutually exclusive with Russian trade agreements, was difficult for Russia to swallow. Considering they have one of their most important military harbours in Ukraine, cultural ties in particular to eastern Ukraine and the picture of Russia in the west is that of an enemy.

In my opinion that did warrant Russia pressuring Ukraine to back out of the treaty, but it does not warrant convenient free time military hiking trips resulting in accidental war and annexation of Crimea.

Anticipating the argument that it is for Ukraine to decide who they associate themselves with, that is true in theory, but in practice strategic interests do play a rule. Ask Cuba when they decided to station Soviet weapons on their island. And I am aware that this is a whataboutism, but since there is no (enforced) law against political pressure, the standards of interaction must be found in examples.

  8. If he ever gets tired of being a dictator he could go on the masterclasses website and teach one about gaslighting.

  9. I do believe that Russia was done dirty after the Cold War. I genuinely believe there was a good opportunity to work together with Russia and willingness from their side. I don’t think America was ready to lose their enemy though.

Obviously since then Russia has attacked multiple neighboring countries, occupied land, sponsored wars and terrorism abroad, shot down passenger planes, and, together with facebook and their likes sponsors most of the disinformation of our time. So fuck them.

  10. West: “Stop massing armies near borders and stop annexing territories and stop arming radical groups that shoot down passenger planes”

Putin: “Why is the west always pushing my buttons?”

  11. ”Armed conflicts and bloodshed are absolutely not something we would choose, we do not want such a scenario,” Putin said.”

Says the man whose already chosen armed conflict and bloodshed in:

    – Chechnya (bloodshed)
    – Georgia (Armed conflict and bloodshed)
    – Crimea (Armed conflict)
    – Eastern Ukraine (Armed conflict and bloodshed)

Not to mention the numerous smaller scale bloodsheds perpetrated across Europe over the years.

And whose now amassed 170 000 (?) troops and mechanized battle groups on the border of Ukraine, ready to escalate armed conflict and bloodshed again.

At some point we might want to consider stop entertaining their talking points and focus more on their actions.

  12. I mean, the consensus is that you have to take into account a lot of geopolitical factors that need careful consideration that he needs to sucks big bag of docs that he loves so much, he can shove his pathetic speeches right to his Botox filled ass.

  13. I also wrote this in a other sub,

I think what recently happened let the Russians to snap. I followed that whole think in numerous news sources that I could find over a long period of time. For them the United States missile defense complex in Romania (2016) Poland (2022) the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System (Aegis Ashore) was the red line what was crossed. It’s a American missile defense base allegedly against North Korea or Iranian missles and could also allegedly not interfere with the Russian strategic ICBM’s ,what I find hard to believe. They have an high power radar system which can reach over 100nm what is over 180km the exact reach of the system is a state secret.

And don’t let us forget that Trump made the United States withdraw from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty a reality. Even worrying the Russians more.

So when the Russians say NATO is encircling them , they mean this.

As we are on reddit, here the Disclaimar/s : And no, I for sure not no support anything the russians do in ukraine or elswhere. It’s just a thing people tend to not know.

My take to solve the whole crisis:

    * Offer Russia to join NATO
    * Offer Russia to join the EU (in future)
    * Offer Russia a Free Trade Agreement

    under the pretext that they:

    * Stop with there cyber attacks and
    * Give crimea back and
    * Solve the problems in Transnistria and other “breakaway” regions

If they would not want to join NATO and in the future the EU the russian citizens would really start to having doubt. At least that is my theory

  14. Hes not 100% wrong. There was a long piece in the New Yorker years back that went into some detail on exactly how badly the Libya fiasco fucked Russo/Western relations. It was apparently a really, really big deal to the Russians, and directly led to Ukraine and the other crap we’ve seen them engage in.

To be fair, it doesn’t justify it by any means. But it provides some much needed context beyond ‘Putin-bad’, and is an important point in trying to figure out how to re-engage them into something resembling a normalized relationship.

  15. Putin is using any excuse to justify he’s aim , plus he’s not worried about the Consequences as the Russia population ‘ Groomed ‘ are behind him !
