Tory anarchy breaks out as revolt looms on Brexit laws

  1. Yeah everyone could have seen this coming a mile away. I wonder how Sunak will deal with it, so far his policy has mostly been just to back down in the hopes it avoids creating waves, but this time it looks like he’s going to have to make a stand one way or the other.

  2. > In a clear swipe at those now in charge, she said some senior figures at Westminster had “done a better job at damaging our party” over the past year than Labour.

As if Patel and Co have not done the same in the eyes of more centre-right Tory voters and working class Tories. Sunak has damaged the party in the eyes of the far right and Johnson did the same for the shy Tories and floating voters. The Tories absorbing the far right after Brexit was always going to haunt them and slow loss of moderate Tories meant there was nothing to stabilise the party around a healthy middle ground, leading to warring factions on both sides. The Tories were afraid of UKIP wiping them out but I do not think they ever believed it would be an inside job.

  3. They need to go. As soon as possible. They are a joke and can’t even control their extremist bullies. Ripping up 4,000 laws overnight is absurd and undemocratic. Anyone who supports that has very bad intentions.

  4. What an embarrassment this company has been. I was not a fan of Theresa May, but she was the last Prime Minister that actually seemed to have any competency and actually care about doing the job.

Since then, we’ve had four whole years of embarrassing leadership and it’s highlighted how little power we have to change it.

  5. Tory and anarchy aren’t words I expected to see in the same sentence. Now that I’ve read the sentence, they still aren’t.

Governments don’t do anarchy. They are the -archy. The an- only comes *without* them

  6. If there’s anything that Cameron got right via trying to prevent a Tory civil war via the Brexit Referendum, it’s that he assured the breakup of the UK in our lifetimes.

  7. Putting more paper down the loo does not make the shit go away it just covers it up .The next election needs to flush the Tories away.

  8. This is going to keep happening indefinitely until the Tory party kicks out the far-right Europhobes. Let them join Reform UK or whatever Farage vehicle is operating.

  9. The country would go in to anarchy if the 4000 or so regulations and laws were dropped. Businesses depend on stability to trade. Even if it was 1000 or so, blindly dropped, the instability it would cause utter chaos.

  10. This means we are going to have to put up with leave voters saying this is the reason that Brexit is shit.

    I’m going to be irritated.

I’m tempted to wish Sunak would trash the 4000 laws. That at least would force people to eat the turd sandwich that they insisting on preparing.
