*“Our focus is always on policies and the future. And, you know, we do recognise that. Our concerns will be around things like climate policies, that’s the thing that comes to the front of my mind when I think of it [going into coalition govt].”*

Cost of living crisis crippling everyone.
Homelessness at record levels and access to accommodation in general at crisis point
A health service on its knees where people can’t get so much as a GP appointment.

Buy the SDs concerns if they go into government will be on climate policies?

What sort of a bubble do these people live in?

Do they just want to eat the Greens lunch? Is that it? Because this from HC, to me seems so tone deaf it’s almost unbelievable.

  1. I’d imagine an existential threat to human civilisation is fairly pressing too.

The issue the Soc Dems have regarding climate change is the same problem that both Labour and the GP tend to have – that is to say they are broadly supportive of the international status quo regarding the movement of capital; continued ‘growth’; globalisation, etc.

European social democracy in general has become defanged (from Blair to Agenda 2010) and increasingly detached from any industrial working class base.

Hence the lectures you will receive from a certain class of person re carbon taxes preached with all the gusto of a first year econ undergrad who has just learned what a Pigouvian tax is.

  2. You’re the one in a bubble if you don’t think strong climate policies are well overdue. This is a politician speaking to long term infrastructure, something that is far from a reality with any current sitting politician.

  3. They’ll try to suck up that fickle green vote alright, it’s fairly easy to co opt the polices of a fully policy driven party.

If there was votes going elsewhere they would be trying those too.

SF are doing the same against pbp solidarity etc…

There’s a fair few grass roots shift from the GP to soc dems in the last few years, so I predict they will be picking up seats on that alone.

As such they would be mad to go into government next time as they will lose those fickle greens as soon as they comprise.

  4. The cimate is more important than anything else. People don’t want to do anything about that, but that’s a separate issue.

  5. She positioned herself as a potential junior partner in but in a non committal way and has guaranteed preference guarantees from SF voters. On the other hand she has not ruled out for this “coming change” a relationship with the two main obstacles, FF and FG.

Opportunistic and slimey wrapped in girl power.

  6. Good luck going in with SF if climate policies are a priority. I wonder if the SocDems could replace the Greens in a FF/FG coalition.

  7. They’ll have around 4 or 5 seats, I doubt anyone will care about talking to them.

Out of touch with reality if they think climate policies are a top priority. Economically illiterate in their approach to solving other issues.
