German police carry out nationwide raids against Last Generation climate activists

  1. The name “last generation” is so wrong: there were lots of fools before, and there will be lots of fool after. So they are definitely not the last ones.

  2. As someone who is extremely concerned with climate change and who, for years, always votes for green parties and policies, I absolutely hate these people for being counterproductive to the cause (the cause being saving life on Earth).

I get it that they feel this is the last resort but it’s like they tried nothing and went directly to the easiest solution: violence and aggression.

We need to bring people on our side and to convince them of the urgency of the situation. We need to help people who don’t have the means to change their lives on the fundamental level required.

Blocking roads, destroying art, attacking critical infrastructure – these things are far more likely to convince people of the opposite. It will bring out the instinctive protection reflex and, when that happens, it becomes completely impossible to convince people of anything.

  3. While i don’t agree with them throwing paint over works of art to get noticed. I think what the German police and state are doing here is a bad idea.

The world belongs to us all yet we have massive corporations polluting the planet just for their shareholders profits and when the shit hits the fan these wealthy people will be sheltered while the rest of us face the consequences.

These police should be raiding corrupt leaders and big businesses who are doing more damage then these people trying to look out for the planet and it’s climate. Police are a tool to protect the wealthy and big business. This is a not a good thing.

  4. Really depends on what they are accused of. For a previous raid the accusation was planning an attack on an oil refinery. In that case a raid seems appropriate. If it just because they are blocking a few streets, then the raids would be overkill.

  5. The law applies to all citizens, no matter how strongly they may believe that their “superior” opinion or morale entitles them to special treatment.

  6. Embarrassing how our country treats these ppl vs how they treat nazis and war deniers… or climate sceptics… ridiculous, the right wing propaganda unfortunately seems to work… im ashamed

  7. “Lost Generation” is better name. Those youngsters are just uneducated and fooled by false narratives.

  8. They put mashed potatoes on a Monet?! That must have been some prep team call. *You got the potatoes? You got the glue? Ok, ok… things are starting to come together. Let’s get this planet back on track!*

  9. Actually tackling climate change would mean touching the wealthy in the super yachts and private jets.

They rather raid non-violent children and students and acticists who are afraid of the future.

  10. There will come a day in a not too distant future when we’ll all look back on activists like these and not only empathize with them, but regard them as way too naive and kind.

By then many of us will happily join a mob descending on some corporate fossil HQ with torches and guillotines, because there’s little else to do in the climate dystopia they’ve created.

Unless we actually do something about it today, that is. At least these activists are doing *something* other than being more upset because someone poured pasta sauce on some famous painting than the destruction of the environment.

  11. My sympathy is with the activist. It’s their generation who will suffer the most from global warming while politicians do nothing.
