  5. Let common sense prevail. Industrial production in Europe sees more and more challenges and is moving to other continents as we speak. While consumers simply will consume more imported goods.
    I guess we need even more inflation and less income for people before they really recognize the consequences. People will need to feel the pain first so that this “green” madness can finally stop.

  8. I can kind of understand it. In our system the people won´t accept the extra burdens. The government is already losing all fronts with elections in sight. More costs for the people means they will be mad.

    But on the other hand it´s clear that we should act. Both climate change and biodiversity loss are threats to our existence in the near future. Unfortunately it´s still too easy to ignore it and look away. We´re fucked.

    Combating global warming is not necessarily the same as the current proposed law on nature recovery.

    Banning certain chemicals in EU is all good intentions, but if that means we can no longer produce solar panels or wind turbines and need to import more from abroad where it is made under less strict environment standards, are we really helping anything?

    Perfect shouldn’t become the enemy of better.
    Otherwise you have the nuclear discussion all over again. A strong, prosperous and green Europe will only happen if we have strong and sustainable industrial base. That will require some trade-offs.

  12. Ten goede van de landbouw en industrie? Volgens mij bestaan er al opties, maar ze worden nog niet gebruikt, want dat is duurder en waarom zou je minder winst willen maken?

    Volgens mij ook hebben we net de druk nodig zodat innovatie meer prioriteit krijgt. Want de geschiedenis leert ons dat dingen zoals ruimtevaart (of oorlog spijtig genoeg) de versnelling hoger kunnen zetten. We gaan sowieso verliezen, dus pauze zit er volgens mij niet in.

    Er zou beter tijd en energie gestoken worden in het aanmoedigen en ondersteunen van initiatieven. En ja wss verlies je daar op het begin stemmen mee. Maar weeral, als we niets doen, en het word nog erger, dan gaan die stemmen ook niet blijven bij de huidige partijen maar naar de extremen gaan.

  17. Ik snap het deels wel. Het is makkelijk om te roepen: ‘minder fabrieken, minder boeren, meer bossen, meer natuur’. Ik merk in mijn omgeving veel mensen die dit willen. Maar zelf nemen ze wel 2 keer per dag een douche, verwarmen ze hun huis van gang tot nok, gemillimeterd gras in de tuin met buxussen rond, terrassen waar het water rechtreeks de riool in vloeit.… Het probleem is dat we gewoon heel snel nu een inhaalbeweging MOETEN maken voor decennia van nonchalance. En dus moet iedereen een beetje gaan ‘inboeten’ op wat voorheen doodnormaal was. IEDEREEN, ook op de kleine dingen.
    En ik ben zelf enorm voor meer natuur, maar dat komt met toegevingen van iedereen.

  18. Laat ons nog eens 30 jaar niks doen, omdat anders onze korte termijn welvaart misschien in het gedrang komt. De welvaart van de mensen in 2100 is niet belangrijk.

    Het populisme waar onze politici gemakkelijk in meegaan, is op dit vlak echt mind-blowing.

    De Croo isn’t proposing to slow down climate policy (on the contrary, he argues it should be sped up). But according to him the nature restoration law makes it harder for our industry to make the green transition.

    People should stop being naive, factories will continue to produce goods. Either we mine and produce our stuff here with green(er) technology. Or we continue to import our stuff from China on polluting ships, powered through coal power, with resources mined in Africa with little regard for environmental protection (not to mention human rights). The only thing phasing down European industry and agriculture will wash clean is our conscience, not the planet.

  20. First things first. Zolang dat de machtcentras buiten de Westerse wereld niets doen (lees: zich zelf pijn doen) aan Climate Change zijn we ons zelf hier blaasjes aan het wijsmaken en water naar de zee aan het dragen.

    Dit is niets anders dan een correcte priorisering van De Croo.

    Eikelmuizen, LEZs en andere First World Problems zijn luxe problemen. Indien we onze Europese en Westere welvaart en welzijn niet naar de kl*ten willen helpen zullen we eerst moeten focusering op de Westerse economie. Het echt probleem dus. Daarna komen de “luxe” problemen. Je kan luxe problemen niet oplossen zonder de eerst de echte problemen op te lossen. Vermits je niet de middelen noch het draagvlak zal hebben.
