obviously fossil fuels still have a 69 % share of electricity generation this month, but Poland started the 2010 decade with the dirtiest electricity grid in EU
since then progress has been picking up speed
* in 2020 renewables had 14.8% share,despite COVID recession
* so far in 2023 renewables have a 25.4% share
if progress kept this speed,Poland would have renewables at 60% share in 2033
Great news! Renewable energy is the key to achieving energy independence.
This month is really strong across the board for renewables. Germany is also at 68% renewable electricity generation this month, previous record was 60.8% in February 2020. ([Source](https://www.energy-charts.info/charts/renewable_share/chart.htm?l=en&c=DE&year=-1&partsum=1))
I wonder if there is some kind of renewable energy source we haven’t simply thought of or invented yet. Like we have wind, sun, water… maybe there is more?
Keep in mind, electricity and energy are not the same.
Electricity is only part of the energy usage, alongisde transport and heating.
I recall that Poland still uses coal for heating way more than any other country.
On a sidd note, TVO (owners of OL3) csnt catch a break xD
The price of electricity in finland have been close to zero or even negative for days.
Edit: mostly noting that TVO is the unluckiest bunch in a long while
Woohoo!
The issue of Solar power is, it’s close to zero November – Februar when u need it most
Nice to see this happening in Poland. They have by far the dirtiest electricity generation in Europe and while they’re building nuclear, they also need to build renewables that can come online earlier.
That’s good both for ecological reason and cause they don’t have to rely to others.
It’s amazing to me that 31% renewable electricity generation isn’t even that impressive in Europe anymore – even for the eastern half.
That in of itself is a sign of huge progress.
Too bad assholes are still – even at the end of fucking May burning coal as a source of heating.
I talked to people about it, and apparently it takes 20 years to get the money you invested into solar panels back. The panels have a lifespan of 20-25 years, so a lot of people are discouraged by this – since in theory it’s not the best investment. With interest rates high due to inflation, it just makes it extremely unlikely for people to take the risk.
Guys, where is this data from? Is it reliable? I don’t live in Poland anymore but PiS killed renewables.
Coal is renewable. You renew it from the mine
