“We” have a very strong marine engineering sector, even on a global scale with companies like Jan de nul & DEME.
And the offshore sector is likely to go through exponential growth in the next decades. Not just in Europe. US is finally getting there. There’s projects in asia being built as well. Both companies are desperate for more people.
We could be proud of it. Support it, strive to have it be a quality label like fries. Like belgian beer before inbev. But we’ll probably be grumpy belgians because that’s how we are. Imagine if we were dutch.
Yes jan de nul is technically lux for the most belgian reasons. I’m not saying these companies as companies necessarily deserve it. But both employ a lot of belgians, around the world. Which tells me there is a lot of expertise in this area in our country, we should play to our strengths.
I think in some way, this is true for every country around the north sea. Will we lose it? 😉
Because the seals and crevetjes have no organised Nimby committees.
