The 36m long and about 17m high railroad bridge from 1926 is folded because of avalanches in winter and unfolded in summer.
The unfolding work took place this week, the video is from 2021.

I’m pretty sure r/BridgePorn would estimate this very much 🙂
I can’t even bring myself to properly fold a shirt
I have nothing to do with it but as a Citizen of Switzerland: this makes me feel superior.
This is actually quite cool! Even more impressive is that the bridge is almost 100 years old now. The engineering seems relatively simple, but extremely clever.
First I thought this was from one of those miniature wonderland with those miniature people!
When will Tom Scott make a video about this?
Swiss really love machinery
What bothers me the most is people thought of the future generations with all their ingenuity and all their means to make this possible. People sometimes tend to forget all the sacrifice of the past generations for us to enjoy. Cheers to them and thank you for that.
This is so impressive!! 🤩
If someone wants a Summer Autumn Day Trip Activity you can ride the Dampfbahn over this Bridge. Just be aware that “Holzklasse” acually has wooden benches altough first class is quite expennsive.

^((The Furka-Bergstrecke (DFB steam railway operates a concessionary rail link on a stretch of almost 18 kilometres between Realp in the canton of Uri and Oberwald in the canton of Valais. The line runs through a largely untouched part of the Swiss Alps, some of which is otherwise difficult to access. It winds through wild gorges and along steep mountain slopes up to over 2000 metres above sea level.)))
Here I am thinking about the various Bridge Constructor games and thinking about all the horrible ways this can come crumbling down 😅
(yes I trust the engineers who built this, unlike when I attempt tp build a bridge in Bridge Constructor)

The guys over at [r/engineeringporn](http://www.reddit.com/r/engineeringporn) would love to see this.
r/realcivilengineer bridge review?
Whenever I see tilt-shift images or movies now, I just think of the Night of the Mini Dead.
Looks like a horse designed by comittee
Pragmatic solution, lots of engineering and involving trains. This is peak “Swissness”.
I loved playing command and conquer. Didn’t know the graphics are that good these says.
That’s so cool! I go skitouring in that area every year and I’ve actually noticed that the bridge was down and I didn’t know if it was broken, in maintenance or done on purpose for the winter. Now i know, thank you!
I was expecting some Benny Hill music when I put the sound on.
Thoroughly disappointed.
((Very cool video))
