German police raided 15 properties linked to the Last Generation climate activist group Wednesday, seizing assets as part of an investigation into its finances in a sign of growing impatience with disruptive protest tactics also seen in other European countries.
The group protested the government breaking actual climate law.
However nutty (or not) one might think the “Last Generation” group is – accusing them of forming a criminal organization with the main purpose to commit crimes (not: misdemeanors and minor offenses) and to collect funds to finance said crimes is much more nutty.
There appears to be a small (less than dozen) number of people in the LG group that have attacked a pipeline and a refinery, and apparently some of the current warrants/searches are in relation to that – ok, that’s fair.
But even people tied to the current searches mostly talk about the LG as an overall group – and that’s just bonkers and abuse of the intent of the law.
Now I can only hope that this goes before the constitutional court (highest court in Germany, that already has handed down a decision that Germany must do more for future generation and that it is currently not doing so sufficiently).
The leading states in this investigation farce all have the conservative CDU or CSU in the lead – go figure…
I don’t really understand these people, to be honest.
Block traffic and inconvenience regular people while increasing local traffic emissions, or vandalizing art… How does that help?
But when there is an opportunity to save a billion tons of emissions by extending the operation of six nuclear power plants, then there is silence from these activists.
I don’t think they really want to solve climate change. I think they just want to be holier than the rest of us.
A bunch of jerks.
Misleading title – the police raids have nothing to do with the chancellor. In fact it is initiated by a land that is ruled by a party that is in opposition on federal level. If anything, it was done to damage Scholz’ partner, the Green party.
What a smart move. This will certainly not make them more committed to their cause. Seriously – what were they thinking?
We had an extinction rebellion protest blocking a road in the hague. The police totally overreacted, brought in the military and riot vans with water cannons at great cost over from Germany. Not surprisingly, it didn’t result in the armed uprising which would have justified such a show of force.
The farmers, in comparison, have also staged multiple protests because they demand to keep fucking up our water supply, and during those protests they block roads, attack the police and generally run fucking wild. However the governments response has been mild to say the least and there have been hardly any arrests.
Its pretty clear whose side our governments are on. Young people are only going to become more radicalized from here, because they are slowly realising they are completely fucked if they dont.
Climate activists? Those guys are a terrorist doomsday cult.
I highly doubt scholz ever called anyone ‘nussig’
Isnt nutty also kinda too slangy for a government official? Also why the weird title, when both those things arent related.
Sounds to me lime someone wants to incite division
