My wife and I are on holiday in Malta, and we noticed this morning a dog has been barking nonstop. We left it as it was, seeing it would periodically stop. When we came back in the afternoon, we are still hearing it barking. We checked outside, and we saw the dog pacing back and forth on the balcony and hitting the door open. I’m unsure if it has any food or water next to him. I tried to spot any entry to knock to find any neighbors but to no avail. I can’t find any solution seeing I am not from this country. Can anyone help? The dog barking is at the intersection of St Dominic and Republic St.

  1. You can try reporting to the local police (21224001-7 for non-emergencies) or the MSPCA. However – they are unlikely to investigate.

    Unfortunately many people in Malta, including the authorities, tend to consider this acceptable treatment for a dog.

  2. Call animal welfare on 1717. Regretfully they are not very effective and I had personally reported a similar case numerous times. Eventually the dog died

  7. I’ve called animal welfare for this kind of behaviour and was told the owner could do what he pleased on his property.

    It’s a very common behaviour here. Get the dog out with food and water, close door, go to work, or for a long weekend…

  8. Sad, very sad to treat a dog this way.. owner deserves a punch in the guts 🤬

    Still would try to get a hold on someone in the building. Or state “helpless person possibly” and let someone open the door 😉

  11. Too many owners here don’t care about their dogs, there are about 7 dogs in my street and all of them bark daily, 3 of them below us, for years

  13. maltese are dog people, albeit there are cats around aswell. What i noticed mostly as an outsider that they prefer dogs because most of them are not responsible owners, and with dogs this goes under much easily

  14. Maltese need more education on this field and on every other. Unfortunately, the old generation needs to pass for this to happen. Some things are normal in their view. Like noise pollution is the most normal thing ever. I know a neighbor in San Gwann there’s one apartment the guy gives literally concert every day and you can hear it from 3 streets away. it’s like that for 2 years now. What I am saying you can’t fight this people. Combine this with a police who literally doesn’t care about anything. you got the picture if nowadays.
