  1. The FaceKicker and Trent threads are up there for funniest

Boards around 2005 was serious craic

I even got the ride twice from meeting people off there

Then Beasty showed up around 2010 and slowly bought his way up to Admin level via the Santa Force thing

    And that was that

If you’re in any way anti Covid restrictions or anti FF/FG on there he’ll find a way – any way – to ban you

The platform is now just the same 50-100 people in their mid to late 50s fighting with each other

The only reason I check it these days is for the TV, Film and Radio sub forums as there’s some decent conversations in there

TLDR: Fuck Beasty, the oul’ gobshite

  2. There was a vaguely amusing case in the Current Affairs section of Boards a few years ago where it was discovered several of the most vocal accounts turned out to be the same person agreeing with themselves. Think they had over a dozen accounts. No idea how I would find a link to it though.

You’d kind of feel for them in a way, it’s a strange hole to end up in. The amount of time and effort that would go into coordinating such a thing.

  3. I remember the one about your man who fancied himself as a politician but was really a walter mitty type who wouldn’t work to warm him self. Can’t remember his name now or the party name.

  4. The Misc was the best forum on the internet until about 2012-ish.

It was genuinely hilarious, weird and tribal in both a good way and a bad way. It went downhill after Zyzz died, not because of him being dead per se, but because of all the new people who joined following his death and tried to be the next big character or to be in from the start on the next big cult of personality. The facial aesthetics nonsense was the tipping point for me, it became like 4chan, meme oriented and mean spirited. Sad it’s gone though.

I appreciate that for those who didn’t Misc (the unaware) the above means nothing, but for miscers it feelsbadman.jpg

  5. I wonder is that thread the most famous thread of any forum ever. Its the only forums thread I’ve ever seen referenced outside of the forum itself. Classic read.

  6. It was hilarious how there would be a thread on boards and then a surprisingly similar article would appear in the times or independent a day or 2 later, sometimes they didn’t even try to hid it. Now with so many social media sources it is not so obvious.

  7. Didn’t a mod there get caught with a load of alt/ sock puppet accounts, permanently banned and then somehow unbanned? Also didn’t one of the mods there tell a user to “kill themselves” or something?

  8. There was a good one about a young lad from Cork that fancied his Irish grinds teacher. He started a thread on boards for advice on how to woe her and the replies were hilarious. The whole of Boards seemed to be trying to help him or following the thread and the end of the story was worthy of an afternoon TV movie.

  9. I’m not sure if it’s still around but the Ranting and Raving forum was home to some classics, but it was a private forum last I saw of it.

  10. I once found the 9/11 thread from when it was all happening. Not crazy but sn interesting read! Pity I can’t find it now though.

  11. The gangland thread was a decent read. Rumours that one of the posters was Hutch, or at least someone closely linked with Hutch. Some of the stuff being posted was mental. A few crime journalists were actively interacting with it also. I think they eventually took it to a WhatsApp group when it became known and popular.

  12. Beasty is the main reason why boards is dying a death. He treats people with 10,000 posts like shit or with sarcastic comments if they got into a dispute with a MOD in the feedback forum or the old prison forum and they never return to site.

If they actually got rid of Beasty boards might actually be a fun place like Reddit but he’s so set on his ways he doesn’t realize its not school.

Boards is losing money and will be shut soon because of him

  13. There was the thread about the best wedding stories.

The two I remember best off the top of my head:

One fella close to the bride/groom, who was attending a wedding went to the church early and noticed there was loads of cars, he thought the wedding had started until he realised there was a funeral. The funeral was going on longer than expected, and the lad talked to the undertaker who was trying his best to shepard people across the road to the graveyard. The churchgoers then started taking the pre-arranged wedding flowers to the graveyard thinking they were for the funeral. The lad had to call others to tell them what was going on and to delay the bride so she wouldn’t know. They got the chauffeur to tell her to check her shoes were tied etc. When she arrived they drove around the back and used loads of umbrellas to hide the view of the mourners across the road.

The second story was about a filmographer who forgot to record any audio for the event so went and asked different people to do voice overs so the bride and groom wouldn’t notice. The fella he asked called him an absolute eejit.

There was a third about one of the groomsmen losing the ring just before he had to hand it over – he later found it in the cuff of his pants.

  14. Boards.ie told us what was on all the Leaving Cert mocks. Then leaked English Paper 2 the year that I sat the LC. They had to reschedule the exam with an emergency paper.

  15. The “You laugh you lose” thread was good. That pushed me to start scrolling Imgur, which eventually brought me to Reddit
