New upper age limit for recruitment into defense forces.

  1. I would love to join honestly but the pay is not enticing at all, even less so for someone over 25+ with financial responsibilities.

  2. Not going to help them. I’d have wanted to join, but poor wages and then that report on all the abuse that happens in the forces confirming what we already knew really. Only the people who never considered anything else will go for it. I mean, it is a shame though.

  3. Also worth noting that this appears to be for their non-commissioned entry. Cadets still need to be under 26 by a given date.

  4. Ah… why do we need this guys in the 1st Place ? joining the “Irish defense” forces is a waste of time.

Its not as if they could safe us from even the Russians etc..

And if we are worried about them we better join NATO and actually arm & fund them..

If not and we just worried about UDA, IRA, the Real IRA, the can’t believe its not butter IRA, then we need a paramilitary Police force that can also have a more civil role as well & coast guard, and stop “playing army”

  5. I have a very romantic idea of joining the army. Always have.

Watching the special forces documentary also got me thinking about it more seriously. Always curious if I’d have what it takes to become one of those boys.

But it’s no life. A friend of mine joined the army right out of school with the same notions as I have. Recently met him, he said he hates the army. Regrets not doing something else. Very jaded and doesn’t want to give his time to trying out for the Rangers, he’s given enough and got nothing back.

  6. Why would anyone join tho. It’s the same as the Gardaí. You’re signing up for a constant stream of crap. I’ve a number of friends that regret joining the defence forces.

  7. I decided at 26 I wanted to join and realised I was a year too old, now they raise the maximum age to 29 while I’m 30. Lol

  8. It’s a step in the right direction. The lower age limit is completely unrealistic both for our population and in terms of international best practice.

Now, do the same for officers and actually pay them. They’ll have fewer problems getting people to join.
