London takes global tech capital crown from New York

  1. The problem with our tech is that it won’t actually grow because of lack of investment, or it will get bought by Americans anyway

  2. The source of this is a survey by “Z/Yen Group”, a London based think tank.

Now, take a glance at their [web page](https://www.zyen.com/), and let me know if this looks like someone who can credibly say anything about tech.

  3. London is a great place for tech/fintech at the moment and feels like its only getting better. The government need to step up with more initiatives to help start-ups access more domestic capital though.

  4. I’m not from London or the US but anyone who claims to be the “global tech capital” of today’s world and their name is not San Francisco / Silicon Valley is just kidding themselves.

  5. > according to new research shared exclusively with City A.M.

it’s spelled “not peer reviewed”. it’s a list of a think tank, and their methodology is unclear.

    wiki:

    > Z/Yen is a commercial think-tank, consultancy and venture firm headquartered in the City of London. It works in the financial services, technology and voluntary sectors on research, performance review and strategic management.

a little bit of incentive there i’d say.

i’m not saying it’s false, i don’t know. i’m saying it has about as much merit as those “most livable cities” and “cities with best xyz” lists, of there are frankly too many.

  6. You can’t take something away from someone that doesn’t have it. SF Bay Area/Silicon Valley is still the tech capital of the world. So I will have to call BS on this article.

  7. This upset a lot of people on this sub. With this post, the EV post and germany entering a recession they are not having a good day.

London may not be the tech capital of the world but it is very very close. Any survey or ranking has them in the top 3 or at least top 5.

It is a giant drop to europes second hun Paris. Which is incredible for France also.

  8. After what happened recently with SF/SV I won’t be surprised if they moved to 2nd place…

it’s really a pity that USA has like 3 cities that could be a global tech capital and EU has literally 0 (or only 1 in the whole Europe)

  9. I love how chaotic news about UK are, one day you read how UK is ruined next day you read that UK is doing great and next day dooming article. Bipolar news syndrome xD

  10. Great news! Heard this week that the UK has avoided a recession while Germany has just reported today they are going in recession. Seems like the post brexit intimidation was complete bullshit
