When the bike helmet law [was discussed here](https://www.reddit.com/r/cyprus/comments/11pecpc/starting_from_the_1st_of_feb_helmet_wearing_is/), u/AI_observer gave me a link to [Da Brim](https://dabrim.com/), which I ordered almost right away. Someone asked me to share my thoughts on it in that thread, and even though that comment seems to have been deleted, I still think it’ll be useful information for fellow cyclists here, especially with the amount of sunshine we’re getting here.
Overall I’m quite happy with this thing. It’s sturdy enough, well designed not to obstruct vision and seems to be doing its job pretty well.
The only part I’m a bit unhappy is the way it’s attached. There’s a single strap that goes around the helmet and a rather stupid tightener of exactly the same kind that is found in backpacks and other bags. The loose end should be, according to the fine manual, “tucked into a hole” or something along these lines, which is a bit problematic, as there’s always a loose end anyway, even if you tuck the rest away. The problem is that this loose end starts flapping very loudly if it catches a wind in a certain direction. It literally sounds like, I don’t know, well, those cicadas we’re all familiar with is the first thing that comes to mind, only louder and right under your ear. I managed to sort of mitigate that by attaching the loose end to the strap itself with a stationary clip and then cover it with a couple of Velcro strips. This way I also solved the potential issue of the whole thing flying off when met with a really strong wind: the way the strap is wound around the helmet now will keep it from flying off as long as that clip holds.

Note that it’s best used on helmets that have a recession on the back, like most prolonged helmets. That’s where the rear part of the strap goes. The front strap goes right above the helmet’s visor, while the brim itself goes below it, so the piece of fabric between the strap and the brim wraps around the visor and holds the whole thing in place. I *did* ride around in a pretty strong wind and it held on, even though sometimes moved around a bit on the sides.
One thing for sure: it’s way better than nothing at all!
