Going to bed at 7pm to keep the lights off: damning report shows impact of cost-of living crisis

  1. We did the calculation and found that lights don’t make much difference, even though we switched to LEDs. What does kill our electricity bill is large appliances and water heating. We did some cost-of-living adjustments in those areas: We heat water on the stove, not electric kettle. We also wipe plates and utensils with a damp wipe, if they are not too dirty, instead of chugging them immediately into the dish washer. There are other incremental savings (wearing the same shirt into the office for two days in a row, and not ironing it, for example), but so far we failed to maintain the same level of spending as pre-Covid.

  2. As hard as it is for everyone with the cost of living, I call bullshit on that headline, lighting costs very very little for a household bill

  3. What a load of sensationalist horse manure. I say if I told certain media outlets that I’m eating nettles and drinking rain water because of the ‘cost of living crisis’ they’d probably run with it.

  4. Country with the lowest social rents and highest dole has people struggling….

If you want to find the reason, it’s easy to find: look in the mirror

  5. Pointless. Coz you see the electricity is expensive between 5pm and 7pm, so what you want to do is stay motionless for 2 hours, and then have the kettle and the dinner ready to put on as soon as the clock strikes 7 and the leccy is cheap again
