Wood is a great personality and a peak for the party. She talked many middle-of-the-road people into supporting Plaid on the grounds that Welsh independence was mostly about a move of power away from Westminster rather than trying to dig a trench across the M4. She understood Welsh politics meant standing for an idea and working toward it with a consensus. You don’t have majority ‘My way or the high way’ politics in Wales. It’s coalition politics, your vision can be polar but you always work with an understanding that it’s going to get watered down along the way. She got that and was fine with it.
Price had the attitude of ‘Wexit or Die’ and fuck everyone who didn’t agree. In a post-Brexit world, this was the worst attitude you could adopt. He had serious fallings out with Wood on these points and seemed like a cunt about it too. It made me far less fond of the party that they were willing to go along with it all.
