Ireland Under 17s men progress through to the last 8 in the U17 Euros!!!

  1. What a performance. And in the end a slightly less resounding defeat to Poland and we could’ve topped the group!

This is particularly notable as this is the furthest an Irish U17s team has proceeded in a tournament in a long time and the team is nearly entirely made of up Domestic LOI academy players due to Brexit implications meaning players can’t leave for the UK until aged 18.

This was noted a big worry for the future of Irish football as we would have to rely on our *severely* underfunded domestic facilities as opposed to outsourcing to the UK academies but the opposite is seemingly proving to be true (still early) with more cohesive and successful teams being produced as of late at underage levels.

  2. Can’t wait to watching RTÉ in 30 years time and have one of these lads appear with “Scored in the Quarter Final of the 2023 u17 Euros” under their name 😀

In all fairness though, its a massive achievement and hopefully a sign of what’s coming down the line for the senior teams. Hopefully they go further!
