Channel migrants are often ‘lower-skilled people’ and represent ‘burden on the British state’, Robert Jenrick tells LBC

  1. He ain’t lying. They come here illegally for a reason.
Sure you can’t tar everyone in the same situation with the same brush, there probably will be a few good people in a group that come over, but for the most part they come to the country to take from the country.

  2. Usual reminder Robert Jenrick got caught about as red-handed as its possible to be taking cash bribes for direct political favours, in that instance adjusting planning permission rules for a company that saved them tens of millions of pounds.

In a sane society this man would no longer be in public life at all. Instead he remains a senior government minister and is regularly trotted out to make public statements because the government know their support base are too burnt out by all the double-think to even remember a controversy from a couple of years ago at this point.

  3. The same lowered skilled people that were lauded as essential workers only a year or so ago.

This guy was on a roll yesterday. He went on channel 4 and tried to say the refugee convention states that asylum seekers should stay in the first safe country they come across, which Krishnan bluntly pointed out that he was lying, and made him walk it back.

  4. The ‘Skill Level’ of people seeking asylum is irrelevant.

Whether their asylum claim is fair should be the only criteria.

Nice job by Jenrick to conflate migration with asylum.

  5. He’s right. Those with better qualifications and relevant industry experience can get a work visa and enter through normal means with little resistance.

Only those without skills the country needs have to arrive as a channel migrant.

  6. Who’s gonna do deliveroo and Uber eats if we get rid of all the channel crossings.

Also how much has the male population of the uk raised cos all I see is blokes coming across ???

I’m going to the countries that these geezers are running away from cos it must be filled with lasses looking for an eligible council estate lad like me 😂

  7. They should make the funding for this voluntary for the British taxpayer and then they have a set budget each year that ebbs and flows like the tides they arrived on, and complaints will be less for those who don’t want to pay. Also gives the public a voice of sorts.

  8. Correct. I am educated, skilled and I got my UK visa in 5 days (from India). If not for Brexit I would be still competing unfairly with EU workers.

  9. Seems logical but as always anyone with legitimate questions will be shouted down as being racist following the modern day trend of being the ‘most tolerant’

  10. Meanwhile the tories are happy to allow record numbers of low skilled migrants into the UK.

Their attacks on these poor desperate people is absolutely dispicable. Nothing but cover up to hide what is really happening.

The tories – and every single person who supports this atrocity – have the fate of these people onntheir hands. Be it in Rwanda, or anywhere else they care to send them.

  11. They are a burden on the state says the man who cost the taxpayer £45 million pounds by pushing through a housing deal for Tory doner Richard Desmond.

  12. the idea that we’re saving on expensive education costs by importing people from by definition non functioning states with barely existent ecucation systems was always absured. we may as well just allow our own poulation to leave school at eleven and save the money that way.

  13. Tory politicians are often lower skilled people. They got the job because of their inherited wealth and status are incapable of doing a real job.

  14. We have a government full of lower skilled people who represent a burden on the British state. The impact of migrants seem rather minimal in comparison.

  15. Taken from wikipedia:

“Jenrick is married to Michal Berkner. She is nine years older than Jenrick and is the child of Holocaust survivors.”

Imagine countries took his viewpoint when the Nazis started killing Jews!

Everybody fleeing a war or crisis is usually going to be a burden initially as they’ve fled their country and lost all their possessions. Plus, they’ve paid somebody to help them cross the channel.

  16. migration to the UK is around 500,000 this last year, only 40,000 are ‘boat people’, less than 10%

so this idea that ‘illegal migrants’ are causing us excess burden is bollocks, the torys want cheap labour and don’t give a fuck about immigration

  17. Channel migrants can’t obtain any qualifications though? Because they’re forced to enter the country illegally because we’ve destroyed all legal routes for them to enter? And because their home countries are being bombed, are full of famine, and are poverty ridden, and so have no real education systems beyond village elders and underfunded charity operations?

This is like saying that people who are stealing food after a food bank closes are hungry. Yeah, because you fucking forced them to be!

  18. You know how I know this man is stupid? He truly doesn’t understand how much the UK has struggled with lack of low skilled labourers since Brexit. Guess what Rob someone needs to work the land, rinse and repeat a singular task in a factory day in day out without complaining. Someone needs to do these jobs that most perceive as menial and it sure as shit isn’t the British populous as the case has been proven since Brexit. Tories are so far out of touch and out of ideas they have to parrot this identity politics nonsense in the hope they can court the far right.
