If you can afford to strike for six months, and your starting salary after ~16 weeks of training is nearly double that of a teacher, then maybe you need to be thinking whether your remuneration is appropriate
The cause for this strike is that each driver would, 4 weekends out of the entire year, have to work nights for a weekend.
Ah an Underground drivers strike.
Nature is healing
I know automation of the system is extremely expensive. But at what point is it cheaper than dealing with constant strikes of the RMT?
So glad they introduced a massive extension to the ULEZ zone, while not offering transport for people that need to get in and out of London during the night.
What a mess.
Find it hard to sympathise with them, my issues are independent of the Tubes but when Im working between 2-4 nights a week on call, performing surgery and emergency medicine on animals in the WORST environmental conditions in the middle of winter and I’m being paid 1/3 of their wages.. I just see people doing less for more and still complaining.
Edit: alright guys, you’ve made a clear point- I’ll just unionise, strike and refuse to treat any sick animals in my area. Who needs a functional food chain kept in check anyway?
Strong feeling you’re barely reading or comprehending what I’ve said.
My problem is independent from them. I struggle to sympathise because of this. My job isn’t done- animals die and the food chain is compromised. They can strike for higher as is their right BUT vets in the UK have no union, Jesus. It’s almost like I was venting about my position and you all read it as me trying to drag people down, no. Drag. Us. Up.
How to work nights when childcare services only operate in daytimes. Nannies are expensive and family members aren’t necessarily reliable or the best care. If these drivers signed up to the job without nightshifts then changing that condition is likely going to push some people out of a job.
4 night shift weekends a year is nothing to cry about, its part if tge fucking job
Imagine being able to afford to strike for 6 months.
Northerner with shit local public infrastructure here: Meh.
What’s the point of taking it out on fellow Londoners?! This is getting ridiculous now, the only people not losing are the people they’re trying to get to listen.
Tube strikes can cost tens of millions each time through lost business hours etc etc. About time we automated it. Fuck RMT
The greedy bastard’s want extra pay, for sitting on their ass all day, even though they earn 56K, so I’m standing here in the pouring rain. Where the fucks my fucking train?
Maybe the government should not have made it illegal for them to protest by operating the line but leaving the turnstiles open.
Just think of how much overtime and stress nhs workers have put up with over the past two years often on half the pay. Unbelievably selfish and disgusting from all who strike
I wish we would move onto automation. We should not have to be at the constant mercy of the RMT.
I miss the days of unions being feared and respected by prime ministers. We need to get back to the days of unions holding governments accountable by having the power to paralyze the country for the greater good. Let’s start here.
