  1. The part where they claim to be doing this as a public safety concern and the part where they inform Gardai if they find anything suspicious; they can’t coexist. I can see the logic in informing the organisers and the health services but not the Gardai.

  3. Load of people I know have fentanyl test strips for doing coke on a night out (I live in NYC), I only enjoy some (widely available) herb so I don’t worry about it. It’s a strange trend for sure, and it’s only “bad” because of the prevalence of opioids (by prescription) in the US.

    While it’s a good idea, I think it’s one of those things that looks like “good drug policy” based on research that’s heavily US focused.

  4. Forgive my ignorance – do you get the drugs back if they get the ‘ok’? Why go to the trouble of buying them if you’re going to surrender them? Do you get some sort of drug survey results on whatever you hand in? I could see someone surrendering a small amount in order to check the rest is safe, but where’s the incentive for the individual if this isn’t the case? Wouldn’t they be giving them up for no benefit?

  5. This is….. probably not going to work. If people are surrendering them, giving them away, wasting their money, they’re not going to want to use that service.

    In New Zealand, or Aotearoa, they have a service in Auckland, where you can go in, have a small sample tested, and they’ll give you the results, and drugs back, regardless of what’s in it. While it may not be the most savory idea, it’s likely going to be more effective than just giving away your drugs

  8. Garda should be at least 200m clear from the centres on festivals. But of course who’s going to police the police. Quotas and all that bollocks.

  9. Fucking useless service, it’s just gathering data on drug trends over the summer for the HSE, it’s not testing drugs on site for personal consumption.
