These data are based on nighttime safety perceptions.
If the value is 0, it means it is perceived as very low (orange colors), and
if the value is 100, it means it is perceived as very high (blue colors).
How people ‘feel’ is kinda skewed though. My house in PL is near the woods in a suburb, in a row of 6 houses. I always leave my gate open, leave the door unlocked when I’m home, and I wander freely at any hour. I’m not a big girl but I always feel safe there alone.
My next door neighbor, who has never left the country, is absolutely terrified of being left alone and she keeps all doors, windows and gates tightly shut at all times.
Having lived in some dodgy parts of California, England, and South Africa, this is literally the safest place I have ever lived, and I laugh at how ridiculous she is. She’s one of the people that would answer ‘no’ without any real reason, I guess she must have been told a lot of horror stories as a child or something, and having never experienced a bad neighborhood, she has no idea of what that actually is.
I think people in safe neighborhoods are more likely to answer ‘no’ just because a dog got kidnapped in the next town over 8 years ago…

The map with the correct title, sources and legend can be found here [https://www.adventourely.com/how-safe-do-people-feel-to-walk-alone-at-night-in-europe/](https://www.adventourely.com/how-safe-do-people-feel-to-walk-alone-at-night-in-europe/)
Waking alone is scary… walking alone on the other hand not so much.

Obvious correlation unfortunately, numbers don’t lie
Very.
Ohh Sweden. What have you done?
