It was a long process, nothing unusual (except we had to write the longest hand-written letter in last twenty years).

I clearly remember my first day here, when company sent us to check out if we like it here, that was 14 years ago. At lunch break I sat on the shore of Zugersee, it was this day with clear view of the mountains… Then we went to Pilatus, strolled in Lucern. The decision was made.

And I’ve just made a rookie mistake and ripped the envelope with voting papers the wrong way…

  1. Rule require some additional comment here.
I am not sure what extra to stuff to write.
I arrived in 2009, shortly after followed by wife. We extended our family here, settled. We could have applied for citizenship already in 2019, but kids went to kindergarten and we we re-adjusting daily life, the came spring 2020 with some other daily life complications, and finally by the end of 2021 we started the process. And the photo is the end result of it.

  2. Congratulations! As a native Swiss (roots back a least 500 years) I‘m proud that you chose this country as your home! Hope you continue to be happy here.

  3. Being here for 43 years ,will leave this year without the red pass, no need to go red 😉 …

  4. I wish I had the chance, study and live in Switzerland for 5 years ( best years of my life) even though Swiss do not like the french much, I will go back in a split second.

    Congrats my friend!

  5. Excuse the honest words: for the locals you will always be and remain the foreigner for the rest of your life. The passport will not change that.

Edit: Downvote me as much as you want, you all know it’s true. Switzerland is well known for how they treat immigrants. This sir will never be considered equal by the locals.Very little to none will see him as a “real Swiss”.

Congratulations on the passport and the salary, I hope it will be worth all the hassles you will have to face from now on.

  6. Cool transition. Now its 100% swiss face and sure looking the clock to call the police at 10:00 pm for whatever noise 🙂

I see the transition of Casio to Rolex!!!

  7. Congrats!

Now it’s always good to train handwriting from time to time 😉

And don’t be ashamed about the envelope, some so called „Eidgenossen“ don’t get it right either 😀 (if they even vote, our quota is mostly only around 50%)

  8. My best friend is an ex-Russian and I myself am from somewhere there and with a similar story… It must be such a beautiful feeling and a great relief to finally get the Passport. I wish you all the best!
