I’m not going to say she’s guilty till we know more from the investigation but it wouldn’t really surprise me. I often see her in my Twitter timeline and she seems beyond toxic to me. Mad respect to the staff for having the guts to file a complaint if it’s all true.
> The staffers provided written texts, emails and voice recording messages from Kanko at the time of working there.
>These allegedly showed her making demands during weekends, days off and outside normal office hours — both early in the morning and sometimes even in the middle of the night.
I am going to jump the shark and call out racism. (Disclaimer: I am a white Caucasian male with a Belgian and another passport, that is to say, as privileged as they come).
I am guessing this:
* Requests to staffers to do things outside the businesses hours are part of the… Ahem… “Culture” in the parliament.
* *Well, I am not taking orders from that black bitch!*
Bring on the downvotes 😉
So from what I’m reading, basically the stereotype of the arrogant boss who demands you give up your personal life for them, who makes you do personal stuff, and blames you for everything.
Wonder if she’s clinically a narcissist… wonder how many of those running around at the EU offices… and our local government, come to think of it…
This is extremely common in the Eurosphere.
The various jobs are very, very desirable because of how they fill out a résumé, how they allow you to make valuable connections and just how well paid it all is.
But, you are hyper-replacable. There are 10 people out in the hall waiting for you to quit or get fired, all willing tondo literally anything for the job.
And so, the Lords and Ladies of this new nobility can reign like the aristocrats they want to be
>The staffers also described an alleged lack of boundaries between Kanko’s demands for work purposes and for personal matters. She allegedly asked staffers to collect, get food for or babysit her child, and to run personal errands or administrative tasks.

>Since she was elected in 2019, Kanko has had 13 parliamentary staffers, according to transparency website ParlTrack. This doesn’t include a number of interns, who are not listed on the website but whose names were confirmed to POLITICO. A European lawmaker normally has three parliamentary staffers at any one time.
If you actually check the [List](https://parltrack.org/mep/197469/Assita%20KANKO?history_filter=assistants#/history) , I find this a bit disingenuous reporting. It was never mentioned she has more than 3 staffers. She just went through some of them rather soon, which could be an indication that retaining staff is difficult but not that she is violating rules. Besides, some names on that list are “Accountants XYX”, maybe she just hired someone for tax filing etc., not sure if that even constitutes an actual assistant.
that bosses are unreasonable…okay, a lot of bosses are not entirely reasonable nor make logical decisions. Politicians live in their own bubble where they perceive themselves as Gods and are never wrong but weekends, nights and staffers shopping and babysitting…. that is not ok and apparently she is not aware of the right to disconnect law?
NVA is a collection of truly superior individuals /s
not surprising if true, she is a complete loon lol
13 assistants (excluding interns) since 2019 is extreme. That’s more than 4 whole new teams of assistants in less than one legislature (a MEP gets 3 assistants). This does not happen unless something goes very wrong.
Veel beschuldigingen van een ontslagen werknemer, eens zien wat er blijft plakken. Hier wordt precies al victorie gekraait, grappig om zien.
Without going into detail… this is the tip of the iceberg. It’s not limited to one politician or one party.
This is the playbook on how to react to that.
First, they will focus on a small number of complaints and call them into question. These will be the weakest ones.
Secondly, they will mention the many good things this person gets done.
Thirdly, they will have people come forth to say the opposite.
And then they will simply wait and measure how the public reacts. Will this have an impact 3 months from now? 6 months from now.
Most likely the investigation will lead to a slap on the wrist, if that. The response in the media and public is what actually matters.

These allegations further prove how disgusting it was for her to call [Thomas Sankara her political idol](https://www.assita-kanko.be/nieuws/thomas-sankara-is-vermoord-maar-zijn-ideeen-blijven-leven). Politicians like Kanko were everything Sankara tried to fight against.
