    1/ Pretty sure he’s lying. Like, actively lying: there is no “belgian position” here. Many government parties are saying they will bring this up during coming meetings how they don’t agree with this. Literally in the article. To then claim this is the “belgian position” is bullshit.

    En dan hebben OVLD/N-VA/CD&V/MR het lef te beweren dat we maatregelen om dit te verhelpen op de lange baan moeten schuiven? Een goed moment om u eens de vraag te stellen of die **echt** bezig zijn met uw toekomst, die van uw kinderen, en de beschikbaarheid van betaalbaar eten voor iedereen. Want als de boeren niet kunnen planten, kunnen ze ook niet oogsten. En de schuld zal bij partijen liggen die tegen deze maatregelen zijn.

    CD&V zegt dat deze maatregelen het einde van alle boeren in Vlaanderen zou betekenen. Wat een hyperbool.

    This means that any minister can now go to a conference and claim whatever they want, without the backing of the government.

    In a timeline we were not governed by irresponsible attention hungry corrupt fucks, this would be a reason to resign.

  6. You know, I wouldn’t want to have De Croo’s job, being a spokesperson for a group of people with completely different views in almost everything.

    He probably just went with the opinion of the majority within his government (I assume every party except the greens and maybe spa) and called it a day. Which isn’t 100% correct but I don’t see the government ever agreeing on this topic.

  12. In related news: James Hansen, climate science OG, has resubmitted a paper which says 10C warming is now going to be the equilibrium with the current gasses in the atmosphere. At 3C warming agriculture becomes impossible because of frequent 50C heatwaves.

    The capitalist empire has chosen immediate luxury lifestyle at the expense of the death of life on earth. Porsches and apartments in Oostende are the meaning of life.

    The warming is happening hundreds of times faster than the end Permian Extinction Event. A global warming event that killed 97% of life. The possibility that there will be no complex life left is real.

    It takes over 60 years to decommission a nuclear power plant. It is possible that we go extinct and that our 440 nuclear power plants go into meltdown and kill every last microbe on earth.

    This is all a matter of science and the leaders of the world should know. The only thing a normal person can do is not have children.

    Edit: And climate change is just one problem caused by an industrial civilization of 8 Billion people. There are hundreds of problems that mean we are in overshoot. Peak oil or peak fertilizer for instance. We are clever but at the same time really really dumb. But don’t worry. Elon will save us.

  14. What we all need to keep in mind is that we with our little country have a very small impact on the global scale. We should invest in the R&D/science to provide scalable affordable green solutions for larger nations which contribute more to pollution etc.. Of course we should incentivize and teach our younger generation of a “greener” future. And strive today to improve what we can “without overloading the ‘kruiwagen’ onderweg naar den kompostbak”

  15. Don´t often agree with groen, but can´t blame them in this one. Battling climate change will cost very much money, and will reduce luxury for the majority of people. But delaying actions like this, will cost unimaginably more in a few decades. If there´s even people left to worry about money in a hundred years or so
