For the last few days depicted in this chart from [NordPool](https://www.nordpoolgroup.com/en/Market-data1/Dayahead/Area-Prices/NO/Hourly/?view=chart), you can see electricity is not cheaper between midnight and 5AM, where one expects. I do see prices declining after 12pm until picking up in the evening. Presumably solar generation is picking up around then?

Here’s a contrasting pattern from December, where you see the dips around midnight I expect.

The overall prices are much higher, of course, but the relative dips are present.

Can anyone explain this?

  1. I have a feeling that both solar during day and EV charging at night are the reasons for the change in pricing curves. However, that is only my guess.

  2. Does it really matter? If you notice your electricity bill, you get charged for the entire month at one rate…basically the average daily rate for the entire month. If I charge my EV for 5 hours and the price is down at 0.01kr, they will charge me for the average price of that day which may be 1.5kr.

  3. I worked out exactly what I used per hour based on that hours price, every hour, every day for one month. This sum was cheaper than the average price i was charged by Norgesenergi. Spot price changes daily, if not more often, yet on my bill is one single amount for the entire months use, say 1.35kr for 1100kWh. As it is one price, not many, it must be averaged out. Check your bill.

  4. 70øre is the default price…

    Apparently…
Now i think we eventually will get a tad lower.. but now theres a slight increase because the energy crisis is not fully resolved yet.. I think europe is at like 80-90% of recovering the gas lost from muscovy.

Havent dug in to the details today, but it a glance it looks it will be quite windy in norway, germany and the netherlands. But winds die out in norway around 17-18-19 o’clock. So i guess thats your answer.
