The immigration figures released today prove there is no amount of tax that can be raised from middle class workers that will solve the Housing Crisis/NHS/Child places.
Against the average European country, we are currently 5.3 million houses short. Thats 6 cities the size of Newcastle.
Huw Pill was absolutely right, the people of this country have to accept that they are poorer and will never see the quality of life their parents saw.
I know a fellow who had to wait till he was 73 before he could move into his mum’s big house in the middle of London.
Didn’t we already do this thread this morning?
Tl:dr:
Parents dying with money is unfair
Parents dying without money is also unfair
Anyone with any concerns about a housing development is this months least popular “ism”
Tories don’t want you buying homes but immigration is fine (replacement theory is still a hoax, calm down ffs)
JP loved some squatter todger in her early twenties (?)
wow if only someone could have been elected to help solve this in 2017 and 2019
Eventually, things might actually work themselves out. The population is aging. We will have more people dying than being born and this could lead to a tipping point where everyone who wants a house can get one. Ironic.
The deposit is achievable but getting a mortgage is a massive struggle, especially for single people. House prices need to slowly decrease and wages need to go up to combat the issue from both sides, considering how out of step they are with one another. Housing also needs to stop being used as an investment, especially one that carries no risk because the government keeps propping the bubble up. People need shelter as a basic human necessity; people creating vast portfolios should not be allowed to make vast profits from that, while the government simultaneously keeps them out of harm’s way (something they never do for tenants). With people living longer lives and no new houses being built, Generations Rent are not going to enter the market until they are in their 60s and 70s, that is assuming the family home is not sold for care costs too. No government is going to be able to handle a population of elderly people with no assets, it will be chaos in 30 years or so.
We absolutely need to use tax payers money to build millions of houses and keep them as social housing forever. There is no other solution.
Oh I can’t wait to pay a shitload of inheritance tax that I won’t be able to afford just because house prices are so fucked.
I wonder how much of this is that whilst most peoples living standards may have declined, the incomes of media and journalists have declined a *lot* since the days when everyone forked over 50p each day for a newspaper.
Gosh, Jess if only we had someone who wanted to do something about it, but you were too busy stabbing him in the front
I hate bringing up inter-Labour politics on this sub, but the fucking audacity. Maybe she should have thought of this when she was celebrating the results of the 2019 election
Well whose fault is it? It can all be traced back to the evil Thatch who sold off the council house stock for buttons. Now look at what has happened.
If only they didn’t waste hundreds of millions on a party for a useless pedophile who was born into taxpayer funded privilege and never worked a day in their lives and put that money into affordable housing instead 😏
No one ever mentions the poor. No one is going to leave us anything because there’s nothing to leave.
Is she waiting for someone to die to afford to buy a house?
Haha jokes on her. My loved are poor too. Can’t stand Phillips.
The country really is in such a horrible state of decline, as stories like this show. It’s heartbreaking to read.
I know it’s a horrible thought, but you could just move up north. I bought a house for less than 200k.
What is the strange substance that one of them has on their chips?
(this is a question about the article btw, for all those who only read the title)
Ah yes, how is Jacob Rees-Mogg’s bosom buddy today?
I wish I didn’t own a house, I can’t sell it now and I’m stuck here
I’m not going to refute that statement because I’ve heard it from a few peers. As a joke obviously…or maybe not.
This is really sad to read. Makes me very depressed knowin i STILL dont have my own mortgage on a house, (34/Male) renting has spiralled out of control. Somtimes i do think about just giving up…. My mum died not long ago which adds to stress/anxiety and my dad still thinks its the 70’s or 80’s when housing was unbelievably cheaper than what they are today. Immigration is a problem.
So many factors the effect this that effect the huge house prices. But they don’t get discussed because you can’t, apparently. Supply and demand – and the cultural differences between generations.
Now?
This has been the case for most of human history.
LOOOOOOOOL I’m hoping to die well before my parents do.
Yes and if centrist plastic Tory filth like Jess Phillips had supported Corbyn when he was the new leader like they expected everyone to back Quisling Starmer then we wouldn’t be in this situation would we
And I feel for those who are leveraged up to the tits with massive mortgages and small deposits, which are largely in their situation due to inflated house prices.
Not buying this sympathetic character she’s putting on. If you look back at her rants from years ago you’ll quickly figure out she is not fit to be in her position. Lashes out and is a misandrist.
As much as I hate tories, the alternative being labour apparently isn’t much better.
