I saw that there are [those places](https://www.suomi.fi/services/rug-washing-place-urban-environment-division-city-of-helsinki/1af16a2f-32b6-4741-81df-b4ca11439afa) here in Helsinki and I woud like to try and wash my carpet.
However, how to actually do it? I visited one and saw that there is a place with a small opening, a wooden frame and some tables… what is the normal/best way to do it?
Also, what cleaning material is recommended? Tks

You need mäntysuopa and a coarse brush that is sold in cleaning section, usually it goes by name “mattoharja” or “matonpesuharja”
You dampen the rug and then brush it thoroughly with mäntysuopa using the brush. Then rinse multiple times and hang to dry.
Never use chemicals, any products you use should be markers as eco friendly.
[Seppo is happy to show you how it’s done (Youtube link)](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0X84WgLqpe8)
Do note, if you end up using mäntysuopa (which is a brand name for one pine based soap) you’d need washing place that has actual sewer. Since it’s harmful to fish and should not get into e.g. rivers. If you want to have traditional pine based soap (mäntysaippua), I’d pick some local brand.
But details will slightly depend on the place. Some have various racks for different sizes. Seems like you has a table for scrubbing. First vacuum/dust off the carpets, wet them, scrub (direction depending on the type of fabric) with carpet brush and soap on the table, rinse off well.
